The excellent Sylvia Syms, smitten with JM.
Great film. The last scene fantastic. Surprised lager companies haven't bought the rights to it. |

Seem to remember seeing John Mills @ Fontwell one day?

Surprised lager companies haven't bought the rights to it. Carlsberg's all over the glass ![]() Or have I just been hooked ![]() |
|

But why haven't we seen it in ads?
(Maybe we have and I was too busy drinking Harveys..) |

It was used back in the 80s.

KKD - Top work!!
Their best advert ever. |
|
By:
Good advert but Carlsberg lager is complete and utter pish.
|

John Mills once recounted that in the final scene in Alex where he had to knock back a pint of lager in one (and it was real lager) they kept having to re-shoot it and he was pissed when the scene was completed.

You seem to like old films, Dr, and why not as BM used to say. I do too. Check out the "Talking Pictures" channel. It's marvellous.

Great film.

Yes thanks Kenny I watch TP as well.
I'm glad it went from HD to a regular channel. |

John Mills had a good innings, died aged 97.
Saw him on telly in his nineties, he was still slim and looking well. Admitted he'd been a food combiner since he had a stomach ulcer way back. |

I was a big fan of his sister, Annette, well the mule actually.
Heavens Above at 6.30 on TP. I remember taking a buxom 14 year old to see this, and she was a bit put out that I was more interested in watching the film. :-) Terrific British cast, including a role for the great Steve Marriott, of Small Faces fame. |

RIP Steve.
Tragic death. |

A very likeable man and humble soul, as you can see from this interview from '85.

Two 1952 films worth catching today. The Quiet Man which everyone has seen but is always worth seeing again - "He'll regret it till his dying day, if he ever lives that long" and Viva Zapata with the young Marlon Brando in early mumbling practice for the Don Corleone role.

Victor McLaglen would have half killed John Wayne is a real life fight, I reckon, and I know a bit about boxing as I used to box myself. ;-)
|
|
By:
Victor Andrew de Bier Everleigh McLaglen to give him his Sunday name was a very interesting charactor.A London boy who served
in the Life Guards and later became heavyweight champion of the British Army, he also went 6 rounds with Jack Johnson so it is very doubtful that Wayne would have troubled him in a fist fight. |
|
By:
I didn't believe you about Jack Johnson so I checked!
