Parts of Southern Europe get much colder averages than Glomfjord  ...

Arctic circle sub-headings are misused  ..any 'cold' we get from the north  is feeble  to say the least ,that's because it gets colder the further east or north east  across land mass ..we are too near the ocean .

I hope some of these forecasters haven't betting accounts.

So far(from F/C given 2 days)ago the eastern part of the M25 was supposed to have significant and disruptive snow with vehicles stranded  for this mornngs rush hour, also loss of power and rural communities "isolated", the reality is the half centimetre that fell has well and truly melted.

Quite staggering really, feed any ould sheete to the masses, one media outlet trying to outdo the other,no doubt off up a little mountain as we speak to get the "pictures".

The way to preserve continuity of public services, it to stop paying people when they're not at work. Including the staff.
Their health would improve no end, absenteeism would be limited to a those who are really ill and they would easily brush aside stuff like inclement weather.

I don't think anyone in the private sector takes a sick day if they find it too difficult to get to work, usually take one of their annual days holiday
So really that system works pretty well
Report lfc1971 February 26, 2018 11:14 AM GMT
of course that doesn't mean that they don't take sick days when they are not too badly
But they don't do that when it snows, and if they do they will be less likely to do it later
There is a limit to how many sick days you can get away with when it snows
Report lfc1971 February 26, 2018 11:17 AM GMT
*private sector should read public sector
its the public sector who will just take a days holiday, that is fine
