Why are Black Comedians so Obsessed with Race

There was certainly nothing remotely funny about Richard Pryor's incessant, tedious (and lamentably uncriticised) use of what is often called "the N-Word".

It's easy money, whites feel obliged to laugh, funny or not.

ALL comedians who have a minority trait play on that trait-  and it's never anything less than painful to watch.
Asian-ness and disability are by far the most prevalent, but its not restricted.
Scotsmen, Geordies, Scousers, Irish, posh people, we even have a German who plays on his stereotype, and dare I say it, even in this day and age - women.
Thats not to say humour can't be found in differences between people - obviously it can - but the way it tends to get milked is a massive revelation of insecurity.
I can't watch it without screaming inside "IF YOU WANT A FULLY INTEGRATED CLASSLESS SOCIETY - AS ANY DECENT PERSON WOULD - START BEHAVING LIKE YOU LIVE THERE ALREADY"

Whenever a black or Asian comedian is on. I count the seconds before they mention "Race".
I don't think I've ever got to a full minute.

Something I keep going on about:
Positive discrimination is still discrimination.

Much as I like and admire the BBC. They have to be the worst culprits.
Especially their sport. They HAVE to be seen to be 'inclusive', so there are black, disabled, equal numbers of men/women, all regional accents.
No matter how the actual breakdown %age compares to society as a whole.

Give it 40 years or so and everyone integrates fine.

Bring on the blind meritocracy - I might not live to see it -  but it WILL come.

Muslims haven't integrated round here in the last 40 years, in fact there is more division than ever since the Saudis started funding things. You hardly saw any Muslim women fully covered in black twenty years ago, now they are in the majority. They will be a peaceful parallel society at best, in 40 years.

Saddo - that's a totally different subject. We're talking about comedy trends here, perpetuated by ethnic minorities who would profess to be liberal, yet continue to over accentuate differences by over using jokes about their own ethnicity.  If they were truly liberal they would turn down the volume. What you're bringing up is ultra-conservatism, which is to be condemmed wherever it raises it's ugly head.

I was replying to Studyform's suggestion that all will integrate in 40 years. As for the BBC over-representing minorities on every programme he is absolutely correct, and it is divisive. Comedy is becoming increasingly narrow and the only acceptable target for humour these days is yourself, your kind, or Trump. When the latter is gone they won't have much.

I agree this day and age if all you can talk about is " colour " then you are supporting the stereo types. I am not saying it is not funny sometimes but it is tired and gets boring if they cannot make you laugh about anything else. There is plenty of material now to poke fun.

Yes. One source of humor is to compare a group of people (or individuals) that we don't like to something that is stupid. To the right crowd that always gets a laugh, to the wrong crowd it's an outrage.

I loved it when he played a randy old goat chasing scantily clad young ladies around. You never get that kind of thing these days 'cos of humorless feminazis.

The reason they do this is because it's a taboo subject to whites and any white person who attempts the same is a racist etc. Unless of cause they are taking the p out of the Chinese which is socially acceptable compared to anyone brown or of a religious persuasion
Agree with those who say it's painful to watch,I used to watch lots of comedy and go to gigs but to be honest overall the mainstream comics are in the main poor imo.

The lack of common sense and honesty doesn't allow a joke to be a joke it will never change now sadly

My favourite was the gig before the Manchester City/United derby game the warm up guy James H Reeve was pretty funny and truthful with his Man Utd jokes

Any joke that involves race should be met with stony silence from the audience.

If one set of people can't take the pee without causing controversy, then no one should be encouraged to.

I watched a Mock The Week early this morning and Gary Delaney (white) cracked a back handed racist joke about Barack Obama thinking all white people look the same to me (a play on the reverse) and the fake laughter amongst the white panellists was cringeworthy.

There are few reasons to be patriotic. The main one is it makes for easy cannon fodder.
There are no benefits to patriotism.

But the media wont stop talking about it because its exactly what they want which is divide and conquer.

If the media just disappeared it'd be a massive positive. They are the architects of almost everything that is wrong in society. I mean they pushed a couple of tweets out a few weeks back that claimed only fools and horses was racist ffs, this was the BBC as well, the makers of the show that's how stupid this all is.
