It's absolutely chronic round our way. Even the speed bumps have got potholes. It's becoming extremely dangerous. The council say they haven't got the money because of government cutbacks. The tories have got a lot to answer for. There are better roads in some so called third world countries. Needs massive investment all over the country not just to repair the potholes but to resurface long stretches of road before the task become totally impossible.

The councils have still got money to spend on altering road junctions that don't need changing, and installing traffic signals where they're not needed.
It's not always a shortage of money that's the problem with councils, it many cases it's their priorities.

"The councils have still got money to spend on altering road junctions that don't need changing, and installing traffic signals where they're not needed."
Exactly.
I've been amazed during times of "austerity" at the totally pointless things councils get up to that nobody is apparently asking for.
Are for example the "road mover arounders and light changers and new light installers" often a different dept from the road repair dept?
Like planning vs maintenance?

In multiple conversations with people who work in the public sector they've told me their dept is allocated a budget and if they don't spend it all their reward is they get it cut the next year. So there is ZERO incentive to spend it wisely and quite the opposite, there can be a rush to find things they don't need to spend it on towards the end of the year!

Same goes for the horror stories of waste I hear from people who work in the NHS + related. Oh and the belief that they've a certain amount of sick days a year and if they haven't been sick they should take them as extra holidays.

This doesn't fit with the Tories are the root of all evil belief system of course.
