Great stuff, bang on.

Perhaps betfair should add a new forum, "Safe Space" for certain people? Wink

What is a snowflake? There are many definitions and usages apart from the obvious one of cold, white and melts on your nose.

Snowflake

A very sensitive person. Someone who is easily hurt or offended by the statements or actions of others.

This has nothing to do with politics. Snowflakes can be liberal or conservative. Whether it is a compliment or an insult is a matter of opinion and depends on the context.

Snowflake

“A snowflake was a person who was opposed to the abolition of slavery. They were called snowflakes because it said they valued white people over black people.”

Snowflake

Referring to someone, usually the Alt-Right, Yiannopoulos, And Nazi Sympathizers (A.K.A. ARYANS), whose immense white fragility causes a meltdown when confronted with the most minute deviation from orthodox White Supremacy. They often cry bloody murder when expected to give the most modest expression of basic human decency.

This is all a continuation of how Snowflake historically refers to people who are against the abolition of slavery.

Snowflake

A term that acquired new meaning during the 2016 United States presidential elections to describe anyone on either side of the political spectrum who is too sensitive or easily offended by differing opinions or views that do not coincide with their own.

Most often it is applied by conservatives to describe progressive liberals who can't handle the fact that millions of Americans voted for Donald Trump over Hillary Clinton in legal and fair elections and that a good majority of those same Americans reject their liberal progressive views. Those who disagree with said progressives or who are not Democrats are called racists, fascists, misogynists or other ridiculous insults or claims such as blaming the Russians with no real evidence to back it up and then these same people throwing out these insults and claims wonder why they are called snowflakes and have their views dismissed.

Also used by liberals to describe conservatives who can't handle any criticism of the Trump administration, the Republicans or anything they don't agree with such as gay marriage, abortions or the fact that some people out there don't believe in God, are anti-gun or accept the fact that some men want to dress up as women and piss like one too.

Snowflake

A term for someone that thinks they are unique and special, but really are not. It gained popularity after the movie "Fight Club" from the quote “You are not special. You're not a beautiful and unique snowflake. You're the same decaying organic matter as everything else."

Began being used extensively as a putdown for someone, usually on the political left, who is easily offended or felt they needed a "safe space" away from the harsh realities of the world, but now has morphed into a general putdown for anyone that complains about any subject.

Snowflake

An extremely fragile individual -often, but not always associated with millennial's. Someone who has never faced any real adversity in life and therefore is easily traumatized by anything out of the ordinary or anything contradictory to their narrow views. They've been shielded from views and perspective that persuade right of center and have been immersed in liberal propaganda in the schools and from the media. They think they are very intelligent and gifted -because their mothers, teachers and left-leaning individuals have told them so their whole lives.

" All the snowflakes were curled-up in a ball on the floor, crying, when they learned Trump had won the election."

Snowflake

A hypersensitive, irrational person who can't stand to have their world views challenged, or be offended in any perceived or even slightest of ways; they will have any number of emotional reactions: impuning character and/or motives, blocking on social media, shouting, interrupting, threatening, assaulting, etc. They often live in an echo chamber of their own beliefs and surround themselves exclusively with people and opinions that agree with their own. This term is most often use to describe people left-leaning people, but can be applied both left and right wing people.

Snowflake

Thin-skinned, orange-hued man who gets offended easily and tweets about it at 3 AM. Term may also be used for his "alt-right" followers who believe in alternative facts and become offended when presented with documented reality.
"Those comedians are snowflakes if they don't like the tough policies I'm setting. They need to stop making fun of me. I'm going to tweet at 3 AM and tell them to apologize!"

Snowflake

A term for someone that thinks they are unique and special, but really are not. It gained popularity after the movie "Fight Club" from the quote “You are not special. You're not a beautiful and unique snowflake. You're the same decaying organic matter as everything else."

I think most people on here will find themselves somewhere amongst these 'defintions'. Seems like mostly a case of 'pots calling kettles'.

Now that we know we are all snowflakes lets settle for the one that melts on your nose.  Grin

the irony here is that the only ones who make "outrage!" posts on here are the flat-earthers. but the irony is lost on them, of course.

Absolutely.
It's invented or imagined future outrage that's used to add weight to threads.
Invariably, nobody disagrees or offers any argument, so these phantom "hand-wringers" are brought into play for added teamwork.

A very scottish phrase for sure - no doubt its an insult up there Grin
Report akabula January 27, 2018 11:05 PM GMT
Actually mainly used between friends and directed towards anyone being overly PC.
But yes, you are correct it is an insult.
Report STUDYFORM January 27, 2018 11:29 PM GMT
I think it's intended as an insult every time it's posted on here as well.
Probably gets playground type giggles whenever the writers think they're getting the insult through.

I use it on my 15yr old daughter to wind her up,my politics are slightly left of centre and I use it for the pc brigade she's learning not to bite slowlyGrin..A couple of weeks ago was watching one of those awful programmes where they meet with doctors and how something of their personal appearance is ruining their lives, just couldn't believe it I've heard everything now a gay bloke was on it distraught about his alopecia beard and how it had ruined his life ffs a perfect snowflake..couldn't stop laughing.

You tread a difficult path giggs, most of em share your politics and are making Labour a laughing stock when they should be cleaning up, given the hapless opposition they face.
Report thegiggilo January 28, 2018 1:41 AM GMT
I don't see it as a certain party,i've always perceived a lot of conservatives as snowflakes I only have to go to my local school and hear the conversations in a very conservative area parents are so precious and irritating I have to avoid them and now i'm seeing a lot of voices through labour be just as irritating and monotonous.Think some of  it's a generation thing as well,i will openly say something anti pc in front of these people just to get a glare as i'm one of the older parents instead of coming back at me with a retort they just back off, into their snowflake shells..
Report jumper3 January 28, 2018 10:50 AM GMT
thegigglio have to agree it is also partly a generational thing. Not entirely though. I first came across what are now known as Social Justice Warriors or Snowflakes in the public sector in London in the 80s. I was sent on a race equality course where everyone kept quite, didn't want to rock the boat as the local authority, our employer, was really pushing this agenda. We listened to a woman who told us black people couldn't possibly be racist as they were the oppressed. All very interesting. This just didn't fit in what I saw all around me, once I was living my life outside of work. I did bring up that I thought the white working class were beginning to feel alienated. I was told this was the racist attitudes they were trying to target. To cut a long story short, I started to be alienated myself by what I can only term as middle class leftwingers at the council. I believe to this day these types were as racist as anybody, they just went with the flow
to further their own careers. They just rode the bandwagon. I would have no doubt 25-30 years later it is their kids who we see as the SJW types.
