Report SlippyBlue January 21, 2018 7:39 PM GMT
I'm seeing it on Wednesday, 8.3 on IMDb and 93% on the Tomatometer. On the face of it it appears to be exactly the sort of film I'd really like, I'm expecting it to be excellent. I'll post my tuppence worth review when I've seen it.

Seen some mixed reviews on this film and the trailer doesn't look that good, I do like Frances McDormand, and also the way she embraces her age, must be nearly 60 now and never had any plastic surgery, unlike a lot of 'em !

Watched Darkest Hour at the weekend.  Very enjoyable.  Amazed to see it only 7.4 on IMDB.  Probably needed cgi of Dunkirk and a bit more shagging to get higher.

Was looking forward to 3 billboards.....

Decent film. Has a chance of winning best film in what i think was a very poor year of films. I tonya and battle of the sexes are two films ive seen recently worth a watch. All the money in the world is good as well. Plummer i think will win the oscar. One bet i think is a good one for the Oscar is Dunkirk to pick up best director. Currently around 3/1.

Dunkirk was 3/1 before nominations gone in since. Probably no longer a good bet.

G Hall, both my parents were Irish, Mum a Dubliner and Dad from Tullamore in County Offaly. They met in Brixton where I was born in the 1966. It was the era of the "no Irish, no blacks, no dogs" when trying to get a place to rent and Brixton was a place where the people coming over for work back then settled. I'm very proud of my Irish roots, middle name Patrick after my Grandfather. I was in Lordship Lane earlier today getting a few dinners in the M&S store opposite the Lord Palmerston pub. Had a cheeky lunchtime livener of course, as one does. Happy

I finally got around to seeing it this week and as I thought I would it was a film that I enjoyed immensely and absolutely loved the performance by Frances McDormand as Mildred. I thought the ending actually really suited the film personally and I didn't feel in the slightest bit disappointed at all as to its conclusion. McDormand, as the market does suggest, looks an absolute given for the best actress Oscar. I'd give it a very solid 8.2/10 personally and would most definitely recommend it to anyone to make their own minds up.

I went to see Three Billboards today with my wife who scored the film 8.5 while I thought it was nearer an 8 and well worth a watch for anyone who hasn't made up their mind yet. One minor quibble was Abbie Cornish who played the wife of Woody Harrelson's character who while pleasing on the eyeLove was extremely woodenSad with an accent that seemed to be all over the place. I have just googled her and found that she is an Australian rapper known as MC Dusk as well as an actress[Blush I think she should probably stick to music imo.

Seen The Shape of Water. First of all, don't think the cat lovers on here will like it because of what happens to the cat.

Bit different to other films I've seen lately ! It was weird and strange. Sally Hawkins was quietly amazing. Won Best Picture and had a whooping 13 nominations. Surprised at that, wouldn't have said it was that good. But I stopped taking the Oscar awards seriously years ago !

If you take it for what it is, an adult fairy tale, a fantasy love story but not like Walt Disney, more like Grinding Nemo. It was good in a delightfully strange way. On a 5 Star Rating I'd give it 3/5.
Report SlippyBlue March 8, 2018 9:48 PM GMT
Well I finally got around to watching 'The Shape Of Water' tonight. It's difficult to know where to start in describing it but as a starter I'll rank it as a top 10 contender for the worst, most boring, inane film I've ever seen in my entire life. Complete and utter cinematic nonsense and to think it won best picture ahead of 'Three Billboards' quite frankly beggars belief and that's two hours of life gone that I'll never see again. I'll score it 0.5/10, if you haven't seen it yet then just don't bother, it's simply dire beyond words.

all very average to say the least, none particularly box office, and that's with out the PC winners.
Whole thing is a charade voted by the luvvies themselves who as we all know live in cloud cuckoo land.

Saw Three Billboards last night. I enjoyed it. Quite a tense black comedy. At times it didn't feel appropriate to smile because of the subject matter. But there were some good lines in it, some brilliant characters and I thought the ending was fine!

I didn't like the sheer amount of swearing which I thought was unnecessary and added little.

Not sure about McDormand getting an Oscar. Didn't appear to be a difficult role to play: moody, aggressive, grieving Mum. Rockwell I think deserved his. He went from villain to hero in the film and
I thought he was excellent.

No characters were wasted - they were all interesting. 8/10

I give it a 7. It was very well acted granted, but the swearing was gratuitous at times and there were several holes in the plot. My worst criticism, however, was that the film was just so damned depressing!
