Seems like a strange idea to me. When I fill up, I keep it going until the automatic cut off triggers.
Why put in £15 and have to queue up again in a few days time? |

I was the same Foinavon although my wife sticks faithfully to £20 a visit.

You're probably confusing the cashiers!
A few years ago, I went into a petrol station, bought £10 of fuel and a chocolate bar for 40p total £10.40. I gave the woman behind the counter £20.40. She wasn't a youngster, not foreign and obviously not in the right job. She looked at me blankly as if to say "What's this?" I said - "It's £20.40, you have to give me £10 change" She then frantically searched for a calculator and said "Hang on, I need a calculator, I'll get one out of the office" "You can't need a calculator for that?!" "I'm not taking your word for it, You could be trying to con me" "you're in the wrong job, petal". She went to get the calculator and typed in, while showing me, 20.40 - 10.40 then = Then she looked at me and said "See?" "Yes, I said, £10 change. It wasn't difficult" "I didn't put the amount you paid into the till and I have to check the change" Keep doing what you're doing laystheways |

No Foinavon we had our own cars.
TBF she only used hers for shopping and latterly I had a fuel card. Was good as the company paid for all my fuel whether private or not. Had to pay the taxman £20 a month for the privilege though. |

Perhaps most people are like me and select the amount to spend on the keypad first. The amounts to choose are nice even £ amounts, £10 £20 and or multiples of etc
Saves Saddo the pain of finding a penny, plus you can gleg at stuff while it is filling. |

Couple of points.
Like Foinavon tend to go until the first cut-out. Extending the time to queue for petrol again in a few days. Tend to go opposite to people and never round up. e.g. £46.72 is much easier to catch the eye, glancing through a bank statement. Finally, what on earth is that thing on a petrol pump trigger? Flat metal flap about the size of peanut, that is between the trigger and the guard |

It's a strange one. I think years ago when we all paid cash for everything, then on the dot was far easier to pay for.
When I fill my missus's car up then I get as much in a possible. When I do my own then I make sure it's £29ish. That's so I can buy a newspaper and still pay by contactless. |

On the Tesco pumps you can press a button for the exact amount, and it automatically stops when it reaches the set amount.

Always put in a penny or two less than a round number.
Like £20 becomes £19.98. I give the cashier £20 and get 2p change. Easier than going slightly over like £20.01. Which could mean breaking into another note. And parting with two notes on the same day isn't going to happen. |

Of course I have, it weighs around 50 kgs but as it diminishes with usage the extra weight is 25 kgs on average which is the weight of a child and is of little importance compared to the weight of the car which is around 1400 kgs (about 2% extra). Keeping your tyres at the correct pressure and driving style are more important factors.

Putting fuel in the car is hardly the highlight of the day so, to make it interesting, I always try to stop on the exact amount.
It used to be easy when fuel was much cheaper, but now the slightest squeeze puts in 3p. The big annoyance is, when you stop on £30.00, and it jumps to £30.01 when putting back the hose. Only upside is that now, it takes less time to fill, than years ago! |

They should give you a Mars Bar if you stop on a double zero.

I find it funny the ones that stop early then continue sqiirt by squirt til they get to the holy grail.
|
|
By:
I find it really exciting and a big challenge to stop on an exact £ amount - particularly when you have got the trigger wide open.
Mind you, makes little difference, as I pay by card. |
|
By:
It's a bit like picking up a basket at the supermarket, picking up stuff you like, and then stopping at some random point when you feel your load is getting heavy.

"I find it funny the ones that stop early then continue sqiirt by squirt til they get to the holy grail."
Is that in the gents at the pub? If so you shouldn't be looking! |
