Irn Bru manufacturers are reducing the sugar content and the locals are not happy at all.

"They have been taking to social media to vent their dismay." Shocked

Shouldn't the change in the recipe to reduce the sugar content by half be embraced as a good thing or is it a case of if it ain't broke don't fix it? I don't know, they'll be poaching mars bars next instead of deep frying them next.

BTW Slippy you aint really a Sassenach.
The term means lowlander and was used to describe those Scots who lived outside the highlands.
Been corrupted over the years to it's current meaning.

Sassenach means Saxon, not lowlander.

Hmmm. While I'm right, it seems that it does indeed originate to refer to lowlanders.

Being a highlander I know my post is accurate. Silly
There was no love lost between the Highlander Scots and Lowlander Scots.

MDH I think we're both right.
Possibly meant different things in different parts of the UK.

Seems the Welsh version is 'Seisnig,' which I presume has evolved similarly.

Mikael, I'm Irish so the adjective 'sassenach' really does not apply to me in any way.

If you cheer on England at rugby, you're a Sassenach.

So when England are away to France in this years 6 nations in March and I'm cheering for England, which I will and I will punt them as well, that makes me a sassenach does it? Laugh

Who will you be cheering for when England play Wales or Scotland?
By:
SlippyBlue
When: 06 Jan 18 16:11
England, most definitely. When England play Ireland I obviously support the men in green. To be perfectly be honest with you Mikael, I would not cheer on Wales to win at any sporting event least of all my favourite sport which is rugby union and that's no matter who the opposition were.

As I understand it Sassenach means both lowlander Scots and the English. It was basically a term to refer to anyone below the Highland line. So anyone from South of around Aberfoyle.

thing is you all confuse those west coast maniacs with other Scots. Highlanders are taller and live longer than
the UK average. Most of the rest of Scotland at least matches the UK average but them weegie rat face illiterates
drag the rest of us down. Scotland really isn't all irn bru & deep fried mars bars, that's only 75% of it

Daniel Defoe ( he was an English spy) reported back that the highlanders were cannibals before the union with England

Daniel Defoe, bit of a Will Young look about him.

Defoe always came across as a bit of a southern mincer though. I don't imagine he'd have been the sort to quibble about what kind of meat was being offered around the fire.
