It came from the East on a low projectory and burnt out just by my house.  I thought it was a light plane at first but it was silent ... also travelling too slowly.  Heard reports of a meteorite on the radio this morning and did a Google.

Looked exactly like this ...

Seems like there were a good few of them.

Meteors enter the earth's atmosphere at a speed of 25,000mph and upwards. Definitely too slow to be a light plane.

Chinese lanterns perhaps?

22,
were you self-medicating last night?
No offence intended.

The same one made the news here, too.

Haha Torq, I fell for that ya fooka Laugh

No Eric and no.  No offence taken either Grin

Mik, they may enter at that speed but they soon slow down and burn out.  This thing was going a 1000th of that speed, horizontally with wee green bits dropping off - like the vid.

2nd time I've posted this, so apols if I double post.

Meanwhile, there could be more coming over the next few days ... http://www.mirror.co.uk/science/quadrantid-meteor-shower-shooting-stars-11766444
.
Suprised there's not more on the news.

Rain's on just now but I've reported it to the BBC on haveyoursay@bbc.co.uk

Doubt there'll be anything left of it as it would have been very light in weight going so slowly.  There was no sound of impact.

Fireballs are not that uncommon.  I don't know why the media are ejaculating over this one.

Plenty reports filtering through now.  I had never heard of such a thing - nevermind seen one so close!

Well, I don't see anything on https://www.nasa.gov/ about these badgers.

Perhaps the gravitational pull of tonight's full moon will drag some more in?

https://science.nasa.gov/science-news/news-articles/a-supermoon-trilogy

I'll be taking my camera with me when I pop out for smokes tonight Excited

Anyone interested in looking out for one, the one I saw last night came in on a low trajectory from the east - just to the right of the moon, around 6pm - give or take half an hour.  The moon was at circa 30 degrees in height.

It's quite amazing how rapidly the moon rises when you study it.  Was out for a tab since my previous post and it was one third the way above the hill.  When I came in, it was fully showing.

I think it might be looking at me.

Could have been one of these, right enough Hammy.  It would have been travelling slowly by the time it got here.

Okay, you Naysayers.  Stick this in yer pipes and smoke 'em!

http://arpc65.arm.ac.uk/cgi-bin/fireballs/browse.pl

I can only guess there was something bigger that broke up, going by the variation in reports.

Why is there nothing much on the news?
