Just watched an interview with the youngest recipient of the BEM - Lucia Mee who has had three organ transplants and campaigns vigorously for organ donation awareness, takes part in transplant games, all alongside A level studies. She's modest, articulate and an absolute inspiration. Some of the people at the other end of the honours list should hang their heads in shame when they compare themselves to a proper pillar of our community. I'm welling up here!

Agree with that. Lucia has had a torrid time yet has found the courage to do great works for no accolades or financial gain.
Celebrities are born with a gift and become richly rewarded. They don't need to be knighted or given other gongs on top of their fame and wealth. As for politicians. They should never be included in these honours unless they've done something incredible and unique. |

Scrap the system and implement one level of honour to be given to those who truly deserve it - e.g. those who do voluntary work.......i.e. outside any paid jobs. No politicians, businessmen, celebs or professional (which is almost all now anyway) sportsmen.
