Regular visitors to Chit Chat may recall that no less than THREE threads about the cartoon train were recently (and inexplicably) deleted within hours (minutes in one case) of their appearance.
The threads examined ways in which the popular children's cartoon might be given a makeover, so that it looks more like 'Modern Progressive Britain' with all of its culturally-enriching added value. (The programme-makers have reportedly committed to this policy, although I doubt whether any viewer actually requested it).
Your Humble Author even developed some possible plot lines, which I offered free of charge should the programme makers be interested.
All of those suggested plots were based on ACTUAL happenings in 'Modern Progressive Britain'. Alas they did not survive the scrutiny of those in control of the 'delete' button. Never mind, I still have copies and will forward my ideas to the company that makes the programme after the Winterval Holiday.
Anyway, you can't keep a good cartoon down, and hot off the press, more news has appeared about Thomas, courtesy of the CNN media outlet.
It seems that my ideas for the modernisation of Thomas and his pals can't come a minute too soon.
I had this in a recent e-mail from one of my cousins in Ukraine, talking about his 18-month-old son:
Йому зараз цікаві мультфільми – «Цуценячий Патруль», «Свинка Пеппа», «Паровозик Томас», про автомобілі і машини. Автомобілі, машини, трактори це для нього найкраща розвага.
[He's now interested in cartoons - "Paw Patrol", "Peppa Pig", "Thomas the Tank Engine", things with cars and machines. Cars, machines and tractors are what he gets most fun from.]
Do you think I should send him that CNN article and ask why he is raising a fascist? And is it possible, seeing as he is living in a country currently at war, holding back an invasion by the armed forces of Vladimir Putin, that he might dispute that article's definition of what a fascist really is?

Thanks for sharing, Alun. I was always uneasy about the white male neocolonial autocratic figure of Sir Topham Hatt and the glass ceiling for girlie pups in "Paws Patrol" myself. I can now rest assured that I am not alone with my misgivings.
