I've got it myself. I felt the first twinges of it on Wednesday, and by last night I felt awful. My blocked, runny nose (if that makes sense) is causing me the most grief.

Hot baths, Sudafed, and Vicks in boiling water seems to be getting me through it.

These women don't know how lucky they are by avoiding it all! Wink

I had part of my collar bone removed earlier this year but that pales into insignificance compared to man flu. When I last had it the local priest came to the house and administered last rites, it was touch and go Sad

Honey and whiskey is the best thing to take for man flu.

Leave the honey in the fridge and drink the whiskey.

It won't do anything for  man flu but it'll make being ill a pleasure.

You have to take zinc tablets.

Just do it.

Not too many - one a day.

Be fair, Casemoney. We're hardly going to admit that a cold has incapacitated us!

Women love it as it keeps them fit with all the running up and down stairs. I always tap out a tune with my walking stick on the floor when I need something, but she can't be very musical as she very rarely guesses right.

I don't get this whole "man flu" thing.  Is it not just a wee cold and a bit of fever, ffs?  Maybe I'm just hard cos I'm Scottish Cool

I've found smoking prevents colds and flu.  I hadn't been ill for years until a few years ago when I stopped smoking for a month.  I had the most horrendous head, throat and nasal mischief.  Lit up again and haven't been ill since.  I only have a couple a day, not packets.

Ive had it for 3 days, high fever and the aches, just feeling horrible. Now ive got a nose running like a tap, blew all this slimy greeny yellow mucus out about 30 minutes ago covered the whole hanky Cry.  The headache has gone thankfully, but thats because of the high temperature? Which has now gone back to normal. Women will have had nothing like it Laugh

You might be right, Lybertyne. I'm a smoker and very rarely get any kind of illnesses.

"Man Flu", sounds like a chinese bond villain.

"Women will have had nothing like it".

Women are always comlaining about childbirth, that it's like trying to pass a melon?
I thought "How sore can that be, seriously girls, give it a rest"!
So purely in the interests of science and out of respect for women I tried to fit an action man up my jacksy.

That's the story I told A&E and I'm sticking to it LaughBlushWhoopsWink.

If you took to your bed, and you saw a £20 note 3ft away from you on the floor, would you be able to reach out and pick it up?
I you could, it's not manflu.
If you can't it's manflu, smear Vic to the souls of your feet, put on a pair of socks and rest.
Happy Christmas.

Was finally persuaded by my pretty doctor, (female) to have the flu jab, despite others telling me they were ill afterwards for several weeks!

Well, so was I after five days, and then all of the flu symptoms for three weeks!

The reality was that, having suffered three times in my life, with the real deal, this was just a diluted version of the real thing!

Same pattern every time; being wiped out for two weeks, and then thinking I was getting over it, but back down for another week!

Each time, more than a little inconvenient...

First time, just a week after starting secondary school (I never really caught up)....

Second time, just after meeting my wife to be, on Christmas eve...

Third time, just a few weeks after starting a new job, which proved to be a mistake!

Ended up telling them I wasn't coming back and, despite sympathy, and being told it was a depressing illness, I went back,
only to return my car and clear my desk!

Just love the sensitivity and caring responses from you all, whilst not wishing to dwell on it this version has messsed up my head more than I have ever had since being a boy.Taken 6 days to get me out of the house and head is still unsteady despite multiple whiskeys and hot orange drinks to top the vitamin C levels up ! Heard of a dozen that have had this and nobody had a kind word about it,worst bit is that it apparently lingers on and comes back after it seems to be clearing after 3 days or so.My admiration for all you brusque, tough manly men that just shrug it off so easily, legends in your own minds,I am so humbled by your rigour !

Signing in. Don't know if it's full blown manflu which is supposed to be a bugger but I woke up Christmas Day with a sore throat which by early evening had progressed to aches, pains, streaming nose and a hacking cough and it's only got worse since.

I had to take the dogs out for their walk this morning as Mrs kit-kat has a bit of the old Gandhi's revenge. It was bloody freezing and the cold air on my chest had me coughing so hard I can now add a pulled muscle in my side to my list of ailmentsCry.

The silver lining to this is that since the 24th I've lost 5lbs which is definitely a first at this time of year.
