.consciousness works on its own,its not controlled by the brain or mind.So where does it go when we die?
its like a TV signal,if the telly is broke the signal is still working,So where does consciousness go,i guess it go's searching for another receiver ,just like the TV signal will search for another tv.
Then again maybe there is a heaven for consciousness, and we all get back together .Shocked

Consciousness is generated by brain activity. When the brain dies it doesn't go anywhere, it ends, goes out like a light.

Let's assume that none of the people viewing this forum are in Suva, Fiji. So no-one here has any conciousness of being in Suva Fiji, for all practical purposes relating to awareness of that place - each of us is already dead. That is, we have no conciousness of what it means to be in Suva Fiji. We are experiencing nothing of what is to be there and in terms of our individual conciousness it may as well not exist. When we die  EVERYWHERE and EVERYTHING is the same to us as Suva Fiji is right now at this moment.

but we can plan for tomorrow and it has not arrived /we are conscious of tomorrow coming.Consciousness continues after death Foinavon ,according to quantum science.
And examination of the brain can not prove that the brain generates consciousness. The jury is still out .

Yes the guys name is Robert Lanza AND he proves it all with the help of quantum science, and the breaking news is that he proves it.And the scientific community agree. Finally we have proof that we have an after life and what we call god does exist. But some people shudder at the words GOD EXISTS so lets say =something exists that is controlling our consciousness.Ha HA ha ,SO GODS EXISTS AFTER ALL,and quantum science can prove it.
SO guys check Robert Lanza out and you can all thank Brass later for informing you that there is a god.And this breaking news will break soon, but brass told you first.Cool

I am glad you asked this question grasshopper !

We experience events and life from within complex physical bodies on a planet that spins on a wobbling tilted axis at a thousand miles per hour.

We orbit around a four and a half billion year old star that is one hundred and nine times larger than our planet at sixty six thousand miles per hour in a spiralling growing galaxy of up to three hundred million other stars.

Our Galaxy expands and moves within a universe of up to three hundred billion other galaxies..............and day to day, barely no one asks why or how ?”

It is no more mysterious where we go after death than where we were before we were born, yet 99.9% never ponder that question whereas it is my daily Koan!

Similarly how would you know you are dead so as to be able to monitor what is happening to/with your consciousness, if you were able to monitor your consciousness after death that itself would prove consciousness lives on after death !

Many believe consciousness is one of two things
1) A chemical mixture which dissolves and evaporates at the moment of death, or
2) Pure Energy of the Universe (Chi, Ki, Shakti etc), everything is Energy !

Have you ever wondered why the Universe spins, why do planets spin, everything spins ? Ponder that thought for a moment grasshopper.

Biocentrism, another philosophy dressed up as science. Sells plenty of books.
Believe in it if you wish, it's a lot less harmful than some others you could follow.
Quantum effects take place in televisions, even lightbulbs but turn off the juice and the light goes out.

Consciousness is Reality !
Reality is an illusion created by a lack of alcohol!
A lack of alcohol is Consciousness !

Too much alcohol causes loss of consciousness, you could be right!

How do you explain out of body and near death experiences?

Perhaps ones consciousness is ones soul?  1.01, imo.

Perhaps we're confusing consciousness with conscience ... or a combination of both?

What keeps us alive, the 'Heart I hear you say'.. in fact the heart does indeed keep us alive by keeping all the other bodily organs alive...but have you every thought deeper than that and asked yourself what keeps the 'Heart' alive, what makes it work everyday, pumping away 24/7/365.

When you know what keeps the Heart alive you will have discovered what your consciousness is !

.consciousness works on its own,its not controlled by the brain or mind

Just because it can't be controlled doesn't mean its not a product of the brain/mind.

You can point to any number of things keeping us alive not just the heart which is a muscular pump. People think of the heart because it makes its presence felt and has been romanticised by the sentimental and the religious but other organs and things like the immune system are just as important. Perhaps your "soul" resides in your liver or is split between your kidneys, just as daft as in the heart.

aasbff, thanks for the link, I haven't listened to it all but got as far as the near death experiences. I may finish it another time and give you a fuller review but it's clearly following the tracks of typical evangelical preachers who like to confound science fact with religious fantasy.
The operative word in "near death" is "near". These people haven't died so what they are reporting is not life after death but products of their imagination.
Man is a grown-up child and most remain just as needy with a sense of entitlement all their life. They can not accept there is nothing beyond any meaning we put into our lives while we are alive which accounts for the power of religion. The thing about the old religions is that they are so transparent and fake that most people have difficulty swallowing the whole thing even though they really want to believe it's true. There is the opportunity for the unscrupulous or the deluded to invent new ones which fit better today's story and merge with science fact and science fiction.
This is my honest opinion, you don't have to agree if you don't want to.

The transcendent potential of awareful existence encompasses profound tendencies to posit manifold realms of biophysical actualities. This neither confirms nor denies the capacity of multiclysmic organisms to formulate  semantic structurations pertinent to many ( though not all) hypernucleated epiphenomena.
