Unscrew the spinny things and make sure they're not full of rice, couscous or, more likely, Pot Noodle. They get blocked up with cr@p really easily.

The other thing is (at least on ours) the top tray has a not-too-obvious section when the soap tablet flap swings through, many times one of the household staff has put something in that bit that stops the door from opening, hence no soapy soapy, no cleany cleany.

If using a tablet or pod try putting it in one of the cutlery mesh holder compartments rather than the designated chamber normally located on the inside of the door.

Cleaning the rotors is vital but, importantly, remove the filter, and the perforated tray in which it sits, and clean thoroughly.

If you only use a short programme, try one of the more intensive ones....

Dishwashers can only go wrong via the filter for users, the rest is seals and electronics. new machine.

Ours was running but wasn't washing.

Took the bottom front panel off to have a look at the water inlet valve and noticed a pipe had come off.
Put the pipe back on and it still wouldn't run.
The bottom tray was full of water so I drained that and job done. Off it went.

Their must be a cut off valve in the bottom tray that I couldn't see that turned off the inlet valve if it filled up with water.

To the OP......

When you open it, immediately after the programme ends, is it very hot?

To casemoney, sorry I missed yours!

As for why to have one; you cannot get your glassware, and cutlery, sparkling as new, without one....

Try increasing the salt and rinse aid dispense rate....

Lady Faye hits the nail on the head with dishwashers cleaning stuff up like new.

I only put a dishwasher in for show. Never thought it would get used. Now we wouldn't be without one.

You can keep your oven shelves like new as well if you pop those in occasionally.

Some friends of ours have TWO dishwashers.

They use them alternately.  So, no need to ever put plates, etc away.  Just get the clean ones out of the dishwasher.

Good idea if you have the money and space.

Seems a bit better I have added lots of rinse aid I keep topping it up after each cycle I took off the rotor ? and washed it there were a few blockages so just have to wait and see.

What about the other one?

At the risk of stating the obvious, are you sure it's taking in water as it should?

Start it, and as soon as you hear the fill cycle end, open it, and if it's not filling there's your answer!

Also, you shouldn't need to add rinse aid for several weeks!

I have had a dishwasher for just over a year and have used it four times. I'm binning it and having a drawer unit made. You can't have too many drawers.
