Sky news more children in poverty

you missed out the bit about struggling to pay for toilet paper and basic toiletries

you could be the women  anchor on sky she watched the film made by her own reporter, mention she couldn't afford toilet rolls, then said should not been able to afford 2 weeks in spain be counted as been in poverty, non of which was mentioned in the film

they define poverty as less than 60% of median wage and exclude housing costs

so a disposable income of around £250 a week for a single bloke is in poverty

i think they should use some other word than poverty as it suggests real hardship
, which clearly is not always the case

sorry 250 is a couple with no kids, its £150 for a single person

poverty doesn't bother me

even a new suit makes me feel uncomfortable

the sighs and tear stains of these poor people make me want to laugh

Maybe I shouldn't do that

97% of world finance is debt.
Just how those who want a return on capital investment want it.
For all the assertions of those within western democracies whos standards have been raised along with all, forget the fact nobody ever paid for any of it and the national debt rose inline with a nation fighting a world war.

The whole thing is a massive ponzi scheme
If it wasnt for the general public being pushed crap they dont need under the remit they have to have it non of the money men
would be able to make any money while doing nowt

SO 150 QUID A WEEK 600 a month,in some places doesn't pay the rent

lfc1971 admit it you need a bigger size!

: ) I am very tall and very thin and very rich
As someone once said you can't be too thin or too rich

Who can deny that ?

no one likes poor people , and when we have to listen to this sort of nonsense we can see why

Poor people is exactly what rich people need
If it wernt for them everyone would be average and then how would they feel superior?

dusty there was once even a time when I insisted on mending a torn suit with my own hands

What's wrong with that ?

I dont recall saying there was

i would like to put quite special emphasis on this , it is fine to be poor and it is fine to be not poor
As long as people leave you alone

Too many do gooders will ruin this fine country

no sensible man in England should fear living on Englands streets

Heaven knows there are worse things

That is freedom, but yes it can be very cold

be very very thankful for such freedoms in England

Meanwhile in takeaway land Just Eat has been promoted to the FTSE 100. It's now worth £5.5BN, that's more than M&S!!

https://www.theguardian.com/business/2017/nov/29/a-bigger-slice-of-the-pie-just-eat-enters-ftse-100-with-55bn-valuation

'The UK’s love affair with having pizzas, curries and kebabs delivered to their door has spawned a mobile food business with no products and no outlets that is more highly valued than Sainsbury’s, which sells 90,000 products through 1,400 stores – and also owns the Argos chain. Just Eat is also worth more than Morrisons and Marks & Spencer.'

mentioned this last week inerja and saddest part of it,was that it replaced babcocks who engineered some of our greatest engineering projects home and abroad,

Thats disruption effect for you.

Like when Kodak employed 250,000 workers and closed the same week Instagram employing a fraction was sold to facebook for stupid money only to be given away as part of the facebook product for free so that all the actions of the people using it can be tracked and used to sell more crap.

Takeaways are most prevalent in 'poorer' areas. Why?

Because if they cook they will end up in energy poverty.

Bone idle women who would send some shmuck out to Gregg's in the morning, rather than make a breakfast themselves.

I know..... I was that shmuck for a few years

easy target the poor

The Joseph Rowntree Foundation is a notable exception to the rule of thumb that follows that the state be reduced and the private sector allowed to do all that is required to profit, and as a result businesses who have no interest in the common good of humanity provide products that are bad for people. The Rowntree was set up from a time long past, when companies studied the effects of their companies had on society. Now companies shape the environment based on the products they make while pandering not to the interest of their own workforces but to those who have accumulated reserves of capital.

Take for example the advertising regimen that sponsor the likes of 'celebrity' tv shows and their ilk. You dont see local sellers of fruit and veg or cooking advice, instead you see aunt bessie or iceland bombarding their captive audience with processed foodstuff that are far worse for you but makes them profit. Nor do you see the likes of mcdonalds advertise in New Scientist, because the client base tend to be better informed and less likely to be easily lead.

Education is the key, The Rowntree Foundation is an honourable organisation that attempts this, but the next source of education comes from the state, the very thing the private sector wants to run into the ground.

Its the scientific sponsoring at state level that does the informing that changes the mindset of the population through proper regulation of the private sector that have grown so obsessed with profit due to raging competition. On the very few occasions the likes of mcdonald change ever so slightly to meet the changing opinion, like was seen with the advent of salads with their meals....but that was a bi-product of the society saying they werent going to frequent their establishments as they were of a different age, and it was the study of those facts and the resulting marketing departments that were therefore shaped by public opinion.

It's simple.

More immigration = more people in need.

Plenty of us saw it coming from a mile back and were called racists for voicing our opinions.

Now the chickens are coming home to roost.

Same with bookies.

Education has to be the answer and perhaps bring back Home Economics in schools. Teach people that if you've got no money there are cheaper alternatives than take-aways though you will have to get off your backside and make an effort to cook something.
If you could bring back someone who had endured real poverty in the 1920s they'd laugh their socks off at what is considered poverty today.

No poverty in Britain. Apart from between the ears.

around here the 'newcomers' rifle through charity shop bags and sit in the coffee shops buying nothing.  What on earth have we imported?

The poverty diet - kebab and chips three times a day washed down with coke.

Fish and chips on a Tuesday and Friday.

Sounds like the ideal diet for a heart attack?

You know it's tough when your phone is not the latest.
