Maybe I'm just a cynical old git ...... but something just doesn't ring true about this whole thing.

Her husband just seems a bit TOO media savvy.
Nazanin cheerfully chats on the phone with the mothers protest in London, from a prison cell in Iran (sounded like a very clear line).  I'm probably completely wrong and I am not into conspiracy theories.... but it all seems a bit strange

It does all sound a bit strange. I think maybe Boris knows a bit more than we do.

Boris's comment about her training of journalists was a bit odd. Was he misinformed?

He apologised and categorically said she was on holiday visiting relatives.

Same here think she was up to something.

The government website advises on which countries NOT to visit. If one visits these countries you get what you deserve. And another thing, if one is a do gooder and goes to these horrible countries to do good and get murdered-TOUGH! Plenty of needy in the UK who would benefit from do gooding!

Michael Gove was slaughtered for telling the truth, which was that he didn't know why she was there. The media have decided it was just a holiday and tried to bully a minister into agreeing with them, despite him not knowing the facts.

if a uk prisoner  was allowed on a phone to chat away to people in the uk saying don't worry everythings fine blah, blah, normaly we,d be saying theres someone behind with a piece of paper and a gun to her head telling her what to say,but not a bit of it everyone including her dodgy husbsand takes it as genuine, all very dodgy imo

Does anyone of the excellent Chit Chat massive know if Nazanin travelled into Iran her UK passport ( Visa needed, and a local sponsor ) or on her Iranian passport?
I get that she's a dual national but expecting that to mean she's entitled to the protection of two countries foreign offices when on her travels is taking the mick - sole nationals do not enjoy this privilege.

If she showed her Iranian passport at passport control when arriving at Tehran airport, then I don't see why the UK foreign office should be overly bothered.
Naturally we should be concerned for all prisoners of conscience, and the welfare of all Iranians banged up for wanting a more liberal society, but Nazanin should not have the same concern from us as the other Iranian nationals in jail for alleged agitating.

This story takes another turn..

Zaghari-Ratcliffe now faces new charges that could add 16 years to her prison term.

On Thursday, Iranian state television aired a seven-minute special report on Zaghari-Ratcliffe.

It included close-ups of an April 2010 pay stub from her previous employer, the BBC World Service Trust.

It also included an email from June 2010 in which she wrote about the 'ZigZag Academy,' a BBC World Service Trust project in which the trust trained 'young aspiring journalists from Iran and Afghanistan through a secure online platform.'

So Boris was correct on what he said, i guess the bbc will have to apologise to him now.

It gets funnier by the minute. One always goes for the mother/child sympathy vote, which we are all prepared to swallow (unless you have no feelings) - then we find out the situation is somewhat different.  BBC  meddling in other country and its affairs or what????

I had no idea Iran does not recognise dual citizenship. They regard her an Iranian who was working for an illegal media outlet in Iran.
Report Foinavon November 26, 2017 9:18 PM GMT
If she entered Iran on an Iranian passport then they are entitled to regard her as an Iranian citizen.
We only have the word of her husband that she was there on holiday. As pointed out earlier by others, neither Gove nor Johnson were in a position to confirm that. We don't know if that was because they have no information about her activities or have information which they are unable to disclose.
She might be innocent, she might not be, we are in no position to judge.

Nor should we be paying any ransom demand to free her.

We could offer Emma Thompson or Lily Allen in a hostage swap.

Boris obviously Knew but failed to realise he was not Mean't to say so,Never the less 16 years for working for the world service seems a bit extreme ...
