Anybody live close or visited? Am curious what the place is like, as when I eventually make it north of the border I would like to visit the Royal Highlanders (Black Watch) museum for some family history research.
My ex wife was from Perth Hank, Blair Atholl in fact where her Grandfather (also in The Black Watch) was the ghillie and organised the shooting parties for those staying at the Blair Castle back in Victorian times. It's well worth a visit for an afternoon, we spent quite a few weekends up there and always enjoyed the scenery and a spot of fishing and also (for me anyway) Perth racecourse which is an absolute gem of a track if like I do you love National Hunt racing.
Have a look here H.H. https://blair-castle.co.uk/

Cheers guys - slippy that's cool about the Black Watch connection - My Great grandfather was signed up during the Victorian era. The castle looks fantastic. Trilby - I was just looking at things in Perth that are worth doing and where to visit in the vicinity. To be honest this isn't happening any time soon, but when my boy is ready for trips then this is one I would like to do.

I didn't know it was Scotland's oldest hotel, Terry. My folks took me for afternoon tea there once, 40 odd years ago. Lovely old place.
A few places to peruse here Hank ... https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Attractions-g186565-Activities-Perth_Perth_and_Kinross_Scotland.html

The Loft is an absolutely brilliant place to go for dinner, I'd give it a very solid 9/10 with the thumb, trilby might know it.

I worked up there from 1998 to 2000. One of the best jobs I had, mainly for the group of lads I worked with and the place. Lovely place in summer - a bit bleak in the winter. Loads of great memories. Went back a few years ago for a day and nothing much had changed really. Nice place for a visit. A long way to travel for work!

I don't doubt it's very old, Terry, but I'd need evidence proving it's the oldest. How could that be defined, anyway?
Never heard of Bridge of Tilt, nevermind the Loft, Slippy. Looks decent enough and there are dozens of similar places up here in the counrtyside.
Yup, not much changes up here Shab but there's a whole load of road upgrades going on just now https://www.perthtransportfutures.co.uk/
As Foyles says, the countryside is absolutely stunning, especially as one heads north up the A9 or / and west along the A85. http://www.tormaukinhotel.co.uk/ Foyles? Been passed many a time but never been in.
