Seeing as it only applied in the UK after the EU (not ECB) insisted on it, I would have thought the brexiters would be glad to see the back of it.
btw if you are relying on zerohedge for your info, you aren't doing it right. |

iirc the UK guarantee was bigger but had to be reduced because the EU insisted (because it was said to amount to state aid for British banks over foreign ones). |

At the time of the financial crisis the max protection was about £30k. The EU insisted it was raised to the equivalent of €100k. It is reviewed every 5 years. It went down in 2015 because the pound was strong vs the euro. If it was reviewed today it would go up to £89k.

Doesn't really matter what they say as you're now classed as an Unsecured Depositor .. the hedge funds & derivatives are put before the people .. so they won't pay you bugger all back anyway & if they did they can simply write you an IOU

Thats just utter pish

which bit ?
do you realize Read the internet rights also changed beginning of this year (no wonder the forum's now so heavily moderated) and people just wonder why! |
By:
A bank goes into default, deposits up to £75k are covered. Its got nothing to do with hedge funds or derivatives.
By:
read the small print .. it's a known fact that they're first in Line in the event of any collapse .. now work out how many derivatives are out there .. nobody will get Paid
By:
what does the 75k Cover you for again (exact words) ???
By:
there isn't any small print, the process of liquidating a bank is irrelevant to depositors with less than £75k. They get their money paid.
By:
various internet loons like zerohedge (deliberately) confuse depositors with bondholders and go omg bank bail ins.
Bonds rightly shouldn't have any guarantee they are investments and not deposits. You can debate what value the cash would have after a widespread contagious bank failure (the government would print money like confetti) but the deposit guarantee exists. |
