Somebody I know sat through his show, he said he was good but he just kept going on and on and wouldn't finish.
He said you're too embarrassed to get up and walk out in case it makes you look rude. |

You get your money's worth with Doddy.
He must have been at the top for fifty years or more. |

Don't find him the least bit funny, not in the same league as Tommy Cooper or Morecombe and Wise, but its all about opinions

Cooper and M&W didn't actually need great material. They knew how to make you laugh regardless.
I find Dodd himself a bit irritating, but some of his material is simply brilliant. "The newsagent in our town was a German. Every morning we used to kick his door down and demand to see his papers." |

Wasn't there a thing with him and the actress Angie Dickenson a few years ago ?

I made a special trip to the seaside one weekend several years ago to see Doddy. I stayed in a hotel round the corner from the theatre where he was performing. The performance started at 7.15pm and ended at 12.15 am. The first half was hilarious with some old familiar jokes but with some I hadn't heard before. There were 2 other acts- a lady musician, who I later found out was actually his partner and an animal act with dogs and birds. The lady was an accomplished musician but boring. The animal act was hilarious with dogs running all over the stage misbehaving and birds under very little control. After the intermission just under half the audience had left. I soon found out why. Doddy chatted to the audience and went on a meandering journey during which there were very few jokes and it went on and on. Those that had left had obviously seen him before and had clearly done the right thing. On a separate note, the first Audience with Ken Dodd on ITV was one of the funniest programmes I have ever seen on tv. The second one was a great disappointment though. There is no doubt Doddy has been a great entertainer, but possibly the time has come to retire gracefully, which I know Doddy will never do!
