Killed over a million people and still they talk of him retiring with 'dignity'. What a continent that is.

Nicolas Van Hoogstraten should be making himself scarce.

Not to my knowledge. Last I heard he was trying to take control of Zimbabwes coal industry in cahoots with Mugabe.

I hope he's allowed to retire with dignity.

Of course he deserves much worse, and a part of me would be pleased even if he ended up getting tortured or something, but I think a peaceful transition (or as peaceful as possible) is more important for Zimbabwe. I think an execution would start things off with the wrong message.

I hope he refuses to step aside.  I'd much rather see him dragged away by the crowd than taking a private jet to a retirement country.

GoOnThen – you seem to be very knowledgeable of past events in Zimbabwe. My wife had the unfortunate experience of having to phone Nicolas Van Hoogstraten on a number of occasions. Her verdict was that he was the most arrogant and offensive person she had ever had to speak to. There were of course many other similar participants, Billy Rautenbach just one example, and one other who I have met on several occasions with regard to the events in the DRC. I sincerely hope that life will now improve for the  people of Zimbabwe, but I’m not holding my breath.
