That's extremely sad, he was only 64 but had been battling dementia for a long time. I always maintain that of all the bands I've seen live AC/DC was the one that I always enjoyed the most.

Brilliant but understated imo. Angus young's lead playing isn't really my cup of tea, for me AC/DC was all about the timeless riffs, and Malcolm was imho the boss. Be interested to know who wrote most hooks on the classics as all songs seem to be dual credited so hard to say?

For those not paying attention Axl Rose of all people is currently the lead singer for AC/DC as the previous has hearing issues, it's a strange world.

I did know about Axl Rose J.C. and to be honest with you I wouldn't go and see them live with him as the lead singer. I'll just stick to having my memories from yesteryear.

I was at their last ever gig with Bon Scott, Southampton Gaumont 1980, Highway To Hell tour. Don't remember a lot about it, apart from being caught drinking underage in the bar beforehand and the curtains going back & Angus Young on a catwalk at the back of the stage strumming away to the opening of Live Wire. I actually find Highway To Hell and even more so Back In Black tedious, muted albums compared to their previous stuff. I know they wanted to crack America but why the got rid of producers Vanda & Young is beyond me. Powerage is their best album, and Keith Richards, Eddie Van Halen, Gene Simmons, agree with me.

Was Malcolm the driving force (often unheralded) of the band?

Can't say I am a great fan of the band, but I must have played this belter hundreds of times.

I agree with you too, McCoy Carp, I like Powerage the most. Slippyblue, I saw ACDC last time with Axl Rose as lead singer with his foot in a cast and he was superb, it was like Brian who? I was too young to see them with Bon Scott as lead singer sadly but imo Axl is just as good as Brian Johnstone. Sorry to hear about Malcolm, 64 is no sort of an age at all these days but I'm sure he lead a very full life until the onset of dementia.
