My pal from the borders was adamant that the SNP accepted a large number of immigrants from eastern europe in return for an EU loan to write off unpaid rent and council taxes bill some years ago.Selling their kids and claiming working tax credits for the Big Issue sellers (classed as self employed) must have made some of those entrepreneurs rich back home.Unintended consequences often ruin the best sentiments.

I know that area well. Strathies & the Pandora were my locals for years back in the mid-90's. Govanhill was a hole then. It's a gaping chasm now :(
