I was but in reality probably three or four years to young to really appreciate being a skinhead.

more of a rudeboy,ska,specials man myself frequenting the same clubs,gigs etc,imo skinheads tended to be into the politics of it all ,whilst we were morte into the music .clothes etc
I was a Mod in the Mods v Rocker days.

A few replies here
Yes terry talking about the first time around late sixties, as I said a bit young to fully appreciate it. Only 12 ! However from London we moved to Hull and then Glasgow so was able to wear the same style of clothes until I was about fifteen. Moved back down to Potters Bar, turned up at school wearing a Crombie and Doc Martins where I was greeted by my soon to be best mate "What the fxxk are you meant to be" !
A few later Skinheads made a reappearance so in answer to 1st time, I didn't follow the skinhead scene again. A lot more racist. I did like Ska etc but think I'd become a Soulboy by then shaking my moves down the Southgate Royalty.
Ronnie for me Suedehead didn't have the same ring to me as Skinhead although that's what the older lads were becoming before I left London.
And finally workrider...............I feel your pain brother. !!!!

There used to be a pub in Crystal Palace called The Swan (by the roundabout past the bus station, it's a gastro/trendy pub now of course called The Westow, as pretty much 90% of the pubs in the area are now) that in the early to mid 70's was solely used by skinheads and there used to be literally hundreds of them there at any given time. As a kid going to the swimming baths in the sports centre we had to walk past it but we never got any trouble but if your face didn't fit then they would kick off big time.
small world ufc, I grow up down the road in east barnet and went to school at asmole in Southgate, although I was never one ,I do remember a few boys with the skinhead circa, little hard cases they thought they were
bet that was a rum pub Slippy - i don't reckon those benches were there back then though, nor the flower baskets - they would have gone flying 
Used to occasionally drink with some Chelsea lads in a pub by a roundabout in Thorton Heath, the White Horse rings a bell if my memory serves me right. The days of proper pubs !
The pub is a shell of a pub, at least in spirit. Could be a kwality pub as was!
The skinhead look was popular with the Gay community, must be very confusing for some.
Bit like the football idiots loads of closets,repressed take it out on innocent bystanders then banging each other after a few lines,salt of the earth eh...
