What to they eat on Christmas day,and how do they spend their time when everyone else likes to party.
I often wonder do they join in at the parties or do they just go to bed for a week.it must be very annoying for them, with all the shops closed and all the pubs full of merry makers.i bet nobody ever thinks about this aspect of Christmas, and you could be annoying someone else when you all party.

The vast majority of people in this country 'celebrate' Christmas with almost no reference to the religious aspect of the event. In that respect Atheists fit in nicely.

They go for long and lonely walks, particularly in the snow.
Report blackbarn November 12, 2017 12:24 AM GMT
He's caught one though. Doesn't count cos its humourless and irrelevant.
Report lfc1971 November 12, 2017 12:44 AM GMT
some children live in abject poverty , and they learn that when they ask for something at Christmas it always ends with no.
so they never ask for anything.

maybe that's why they become atheists ?
I don't know .

why are Christians so unchristian? have they not read the manual?
Report woodmanchester November 12, 2017 1:42 AM GMT
He died on the cross to save all our souls, if you believe what you read

What do athiests do at Christmas?  As Crystalhunt says, just take a look around you and all over the nation.

Northernlite, it's a tough manual & there are many distractions.

Woodmanchester got it right.

If you skip back in time the question would be "What do Christians do at Yule?" The answer would be the same, "they join in with everyone else".

Atheists dont believe in god

Christmas celebrates the birth of jesus

Pull my cracker anyone?
Report edy November 12, 2017 9:45 AM GMT
They celebrate the Germanic roots of it before Christians stole the festivities and claimed they came up with all of it.
Report ericster November 12, 2017 9:52 AM GMT
Well, I'm a devout Atheist and I don't "object" to the festivities. If a young woman chooses to stand in front of me with mistletoe held aloft, and not wishing to offend, I'm prepared to go along with it and I'm more than willing to accept the holiday with pay. You won't catch me singing carols of course but some them DO have catchy tunes and I have to admit to whistling one occasionally. Don't attend nativity plays but hey! On whole I really don't mind. I'm all for live and let live. A stance that the religious types might consider adopting.

It's the children of 'Jehovah's Wet Nurses' that I feel sorry for!

They don't even celebrate birthdays, so no parties and plus, the kids don't get to the parties of others!

If you'e ever seen the deluded, and misguided individuals, heading for the Sunday meeting, this is the only time the young girls get to wear a "party" dress!
Report cooperman November 12, 2017 10:41 AM GMT
I usually remind people about fasting for forty days for Lent prior to eating chocolate eggs to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus.

Lady V,
there's a local woman, JW, does the rounds of door-knocking every now and then with a grown up daughter in tow and the daughter looks such a sourpuss. The word "brainwashed" comes to mind. She, the daughter, has that far of remoteness in her eyes almost as though she might be bombed out of her head on something. She's no raving beauty but I'd gladly rouse her from her slumbers. I'd swear she crying out for a prince charming. She looks so empty inside.

I agree with ericster.  If people don't want to know, I just leave it there.  They can always ask & I would NEVER force my views on anyone.  The JW's have much to learn, imo.

OK,let me run this question by you all.Suppose this guy works for a firm(lets call him JIMMY)And Jimmy is an atheist,so I few days before Christmas Jimmy is told don't bother coming in to work for the next week because we are going to celebrate the birth of jesus Christ. Is jimmy not a victim of discrimination at work against his religious beliefs because he is told not to turn up for work.
if the firm employed other different types of religious people and the firm said it was closing for another religious celebration there would be a Strike by the Christians who would be offended.
Report ericster November 12, 2017 8:02 PM GMT
I think you've got it wrong there brassneck. It's we who are being told to be less open about our faith, christian church-goers etc. for fear of offending others and I resent that.
Report brassneck November 12, 2017 8:08 PM GMT
I guess it will not be long before we get a test case in the high court. At the moment its smoldering in the schools about religious classes,As some children are being forced to attend religion class and parents are objecting to this. While the school insists that if a child attends a school it must follow the rules of attendance.
Report ericster November 12, 2017 8:15 PM GMT
I think people are totally over-reacting here bn. Children should be taught about religion imo but at the same time not be preached to. How else are they going to learn tolerance?
Report portmanpark November 12, 2017 8:34 PM GMT
think religion is in some way a form of mental illness.......as dawkins said if only one person in the world believed it he or she would be carted off to the funny farm...its only because so many are afflicted by it that its excepted

pumphol,
they are making assumptions about his tolerance, or lack of, regarding other faiths. Might they not want him around at this time and doesn't he have every right to be there.

By the way, I agree with postmanpark.

It should be the right of the individual to ask his boss to be allowed not to take part in the celebrations imo. Respectfully of course.

Athiests have a better time at Christmas than most Christians who are too busy feeling guilty cos some jobsworth in a black suit and white collar tells them they are sinners.
Up here in Scotland we have the religion of Thou Shalt Not. Which actually translates into Thou shalt not do anything that puts a smile on your face.

Lets say Jimmy the atheist gets up Christmas morning
puts on his computer to have a bet=finds out jockeys and footballers are all away celebrating the birth of jesus Christ.
so he goes to the shops=finds out all the shops are closed ,shopowners celebrating the birth of jesus Christ.
So he decides to go for a quite pint.=pubs packed with people celebrating the birth of jesus Christ.
So he goes to a café for a fish and chip=finds out that there is only turkey and ham on the menu due to celebrating the birth of jesus Christ.
so he decides to go for a walk and everyone is indoors celebrating with their families celebrating the birth of jesus Christ.
later he decided to go to the dog track.=closed .dog owners and trainers celebrating the birth of jesus Christ.
THEN he decided to go dancing=finds out all the dancers are celebrating the birth of jesus Christ.
Goes home and puts on the telly=finds out its mass that's on,or a eastender episode of celebrating the birth of jesus Christ.
SO WHY CAN ALL THE ATHEISTS NOT ALL GET TOGETHER AND RUN A NORMAL DAY ,WITH atheist jockeys, footballers, shopowners, cafe owners, walkers, families, dog owners and trainers, and dancers and carry on as usual.
Christmas is unfair for these people and I believe that their civil liberties are being taken away from them.

I can only speak for myself of course.
Get's up Christmas morning... yup.
Switches on computer...yup.
Goes to shops ffs?... but why?
I will have stocked with food and booze and absolutely won't go out, ANYWHERE, unless absolutely necessary.
I don't do cafes and what's wrong with turkey and ham? So it just happens to be Christmas. And?
Now I might just go for a walk, eventually, to kill the boredom. The streets will be quite. Often there'll be a deathly hush. I like that. Maybe the odd boy and/girl showing of their new bike but that's all.
Dancing? Don't think so.
Unfair? Look! I work hard all year. Christmas holiday? Yes please.
Good Friday Easter Monday and anything else that's going LOL. I'll take it. It isn't all bad.

Ho'ho'ho.
