Ugly men Im afraid for you.

Its all getting rather silly now isnt it.
Somebody once touched a knee, or made a sexual reference.
How then are men supposed to instigate interest between the genders exactly?
Through court?

I think we're focusing the law more and more on the wrong things. Normal human behavior criminalized. It's like being arrested for wanting your breakfast. Stupid.

And if you make statements like my 1st paragraph, you're accused of being a masochistic woman hater, so you can't even say what I said above.

I want women to be protected from true sexual harassment, but not to the extent where it interferes with normal human interaction, that's all.

Someone touching someone's knee is trivial compared to rape and murder, surely anyone can see that?
Report donny osmond November 1, 2017 10:20 AM GMT
its not about stopping normal human interaction its trying to stop those in power abusing their power.

it certainly is not masochistic, perhaps you meant to type misogynistic?

do you think fallon was trying to chat up hartley brewer or just put his hand on her knee to
let her know he was in charge of things?

she certainly sorted him by warning him if it continued she would punch him

but some women may not be that brave and may worry their job may suffer if they did
not allow him to continue.

its good that she has sorted it to her satisfaction, and no court sanction could be
as bad as the humiliation he is now suffering.

Adam Sandler putting his hand on the actress's knee and Fallon putting his hand on Hartley Brewer's knee were not in situations where one person had power over another.

Maybe it's innate and to do with trying to subtly exert power without realising it, maybe it's a sexual overture to test the water, but in these cases it's not abuse of power and it's not sexual harassment.  It's scraping the barrel to sensationalise a story of someone putting their hand on your knee from 15 years ago and vilify them for it.  I think despite all the hullabaloo most people realise this.  Be a sad state of affairs if most people didn't.

That's not to say repeated similar behaviour of a boss towards their employee isn't.  In context, it's creepy, vulgar and an abuse of power. In this case the abuse of power lies with the people sensationalising these stories imo.
Report donny osmond November 1, 2017 1:58 PM GMT
somebody placing a hand on a knee does not normally produce a threat to punch

seems fairly obvious

http://www.a1sportingmemorabilia.co.uk/vinnie-jones-signed-photo-gazza-ball-squeeze.html

I think any of us who like football and are old enough remember that picture.  As far as I can recall the media laughed it off as a joke and embellished Vinnie's hard man image.

I disagree and disagreed at the time. I thought Vinnie was an ****.  But the upshot was that anyone having their bollocks squeezed by another bloke, was to grin and bear it and take it as a joke.  I don't know where putting your hand on someone's knee compared to grabbing one's bollocks rates, but I would imagine very low down the pecking order.

think people are over stating the power argument,a foremen cleaner on 8 quid an hr has so called power over a cleaner on 7,50 an hr but I,m sure if the foremen harassed ,bullied the cleaner he,d be getting a smack in the chops,if people especialy women put their jobs ,careers ahead of reporting a rape , doesn't say much for them does it, people in mundane medial jobs give them up all the time becauyse of the treatment they receive at work, casting couch in all walks of life has always been there doesnt mean you have to jump on it ,people equate this to Saville, football coaches etc but these women arnt kids in most cases they had a choice and chose their jobs, there,ll be plenty out there in politics, arts etc who chose differently

let me tell you, they don't like it, one little bit. they'll resort to insults (inc calling you gay Laugh.  )

isn't that the female equivalent of misogyny ?   there's one for the equality feminist nutters Wink

Good opening post.

It's seen so often in adverts where women can say anything...
"He's fit", "I'm on the pull tonight" and so on.
If it was said by a man in ANY context, there would be outcry.

There are a few indignant, possibly jealous, women trying to feel important. Some of them are journalists.

I don't know anyone, male OR female who isn't Pee'd off with the current absolute need to be careful with every word or action.

Yesterday, whilst chatting with a customer, a young woman, she accidentally brushed against my hand with hers and jumped back and apologised profusely.
I had to tell her don't worry about it...

Mind you I had to stop myself saying, "you can brush against anything you like sweetheart" Grin

Its all about knowing what you can and can't do in certain situations with certain people.

What can be acceptable coming from a good looking 28 yr old is not acceptable from a 62 yr old but because he is in a position of power he feels enboldened and exploits it.  This bloke is a creep.

Unfortunately there are men of all ages who are unaware of how unattractive they are and how unwelcome their clumsy attempts at seduction are.

Unless of course the gentleman concerned is known to have a great deal of money. The approach will then often be welcomed and financially exploited.

Both the Brewster and that Oakshot sort have surprisingly come out attempting to temper the flames that I expected each of those two to fan.

I wonder if there is a chill starting to run up the spines of women while sat at their vanity tables which are armed with every potion and powder know to science, that actually this might result in their efforts of disguise losing all effect?

mick jagger blows the 60 yr old theory out of the window, seems women now think they can behave, act exactly the same with 2 different men wake up next day marry one have kids and 10 years later accuse the other of rape ,unwanted attention etc,how are men supposed to deal with that
there now seems to be different degrees of rape those portrayed on tv shows, crime watch etc where the women are to traumatised to even leave the house and those who carry on regardless mark it in the back of the book for future ammunition,
watched newsnight last night sick to death of the media letting young people get away with the moral high ground ,if there were 50 young people in a room and 50 over 50,s 60,s in a room who do you think would be worried about showing the contents of their phones, how can anyone take the snowflakes seriously when you see pictures of women after Saturday night out in town, supposedly stressed out about an unwarranted touch, comment here and there

Some people might get some pleasure out of hate
Me, I've enough already on my plate
People might need some tension to relax
Me? I'm too busy dodging between the flak
What you see is what you get
You've made your bed, you better lie in it
You choose your leaders and place your trust
As their lies wash you down and their promises rust

You'll see kidney machines replaced by rockets and guns

And the public wants what the public gets
But I don't get what this society wants

To the OP - the law hasn't changed on this issue. It's illegal!

However, if a man touched my wife's knee without consent, I wouldn't advise her to involve the police.
Report 1st time poster November 3, 2017 1:03 PM GMT
seems the labour luvies harpoon, jess, etc knew about therape claim but say she didn't want the police involved ,so these so called saviours of women were quite happy to see someone thrown out of the labour party and to carry on raping women as long as it wasn't rape under a labour banner, they are as sick as the alleged rapist himself,or maybe it wasn't rape and she didn't want the 3rd degree she,d get of the police easier to label someone and leave it like that,so the current bstate of affairs is that mp,s in government think they no theres rapists running about to do as they please but they wont involve the police, think all 600 mp,s should be sacked on the spot and we start again
