Thanks for the heads-up.
About half-way through now. One thing that puzzles me is who are the talking heads? |
|
By:
The talking heads seemed to be media-friendly historians (and I have a book by one of them -- nothing to do with this) and I think the idea was that each person commented on one historical figure.
But I can't be sure and if this was the intention then consistent captioning should have been used. Without it, they might as well have been actors popping up from time to time for no apparent reason. 7/10 for me. Could have been better, should have been better, and really they spent so long setting the scene that they skimmed over the most interesting parts of what was a well-known story which is how they tied the plot to Mary herself, along with frequency analysis and what Elizabeth really wanted. |

...and its going to be the stories of the victors
history always favours the victors, but seems a decent stab at it all |

Turns out she is an historical novelist who has also written a biography of Elizabeth I. http://lisa-hilton.com/ Jerry Brotton is professor of renaissance studies and the one whose book, A History of the World in Twelve Maps, I own. http://www.sed.qmul.ac.uk/staff/brottonj.html He is in the English not History department. And then I got bored with googling the contributors. |
