Granted I'm an old codger who has lost most of my marbles, but I reckon Tesco have deliberately caught me out. My grandchildren (all adults) were talking about this new horror film called IT featuring a murdering clown. They all reckoned it was going to be a must see. So, there I am wandering aimlessly in the aisles like I do, and I see the DVD of the film on special offer for £5. I buy two of them thinking my grandsons will be chuffed.
"You silly old duffer, that's twenty years old" was the response when I handed over my gifts. They didn't actually say that of course, but I could tell it was what they were thinking.
The DVD had IT written on it in massive letters with a picture of a creepy clown. I feel old fools like me are being caught out deliberately, prominently advertised to coincide with the release of a film with exactly the same name and plot.

This is standard practice: old films are re-released on DVD to cash in on new ones. Dunkirk being the other obvious example from recent weeks.
Be realistic. The going rate for a new film is between £10 and £20 depending how well it did in the cinema, and its price will be gradually reduced over a few months. No hit film will be introduced at a fiver.

Yes, I realise all that now. At the time I wasn't even aware there was an original movie. Actually, the DVDs I bought are not even a film, it's a collection of TV programmes which just makes it worse. I've been had over.

As Racingqueen says, you've probably got the better version.
My 16y/o apprentice has been to the cinema for the last two weeks to watch IT. It wasn't his intention to watch it the second time, he went to watch a film rated 18 and the staff wouldn't let him because of his age!

IT is based on a pretty thick Stephen King book that was imho d-mned good and scary, the film done 20 years ago was I think, and this is often the case with King's film versions, not as good as the book. I think a lot of it that is due to King having thoughts, feelings, flashbacks, descriptions and so on that are hard to put into a 90 minute film, and your imagination can be scarier than what you see on a screen. Not sure about the new version.
The Green Mile was a Stephen King book and that was a pretty good conversion, though Hanks was in that, he's fantastic. He's first in line to play me in my life story. As long as there are no cut love scenes with basketballs called Wilson, we all know what really went on there

but even more importantly, there was this banger from back in the day from the 'rave scene' that used the Pennywise dancing clown sample in it from around 1992 if memory serves.
Great tune from the days we all went about taking drugs and having a great time.

Stephen King is a genius writer. More often than not , he brings you into his story world with no effort whatsoever, and you immediately have empathy with his characters.
Some decent films have been made ,based on his novels :-
The Shining Christine Carrie The Green Mile. IT Salem's Lot ( made for TV) was excellent. Misery
