No first class on an iceberg, that wouldn't have gone down well at all.
|
|
By:
it not that the iceberg was travelling at 200 miles a hour, they had 2 hours after impact to decide what they were going to do and they knew nobody was arriving to save them, they know they did not have enough lifeboats and a big super massive bulk of ice 30 yards away and nobody said"lets get on to the iceberg until help arrives"
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() there is something we are not been told even after 105 years.? |

They were concerned about the lurking polar bear, Brassy.

put it this way foinavon,"if you were in the middle of the Atlantic ocean swimming(your boat has sunk)and a big wooden crate comes floating past you,it a no brainer what you are going to do"
I think there should be another investigation into what really happened. because according to the records something is seriously wrong. there had to be a lot of professional seamen on that ship and should of thought of Brass's idea. ![]() |

And according to the reports the iceberg that they crashed into survived for another 2 months until it hit warm waters.
two fecking months and all they had to do was borrow it for 10 hours. And had they rammed the liner into it surely it would have wedged and the ship would have remained afloat. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Something seriously wrong with the Titanic story. |

boxing the fox,you remind me of an ex forumite who use to post on here many years ago and he use to post the zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz sign. His name was dirtman, but I became mates with him and told him about laying odds on away teams playing away.
he soon made a million and the last I heard of him he was sailing his yacht round the Canary isles. ![]() ![]() |

You wouldn't be swimming for long in water that cold, Ishmael. If it had been an ice sheet, they could have gone with the floe.

the ship didn't stop beside it it kept going? It was lateral thinking isn't it.
Intereting little fact you may not know of, in ww2 the allies considered cutting off huge icebergs and sticking engines on them and turning them into ice aircraft carriers! Now that's a novel idea. |
|
By:
Actuallly now I check it wasn't a proper iceberg, it kind of was but was a man made mixture of frozen water and some wood pulp. Still, a nice and blue sky idea even if it eventually wasn't really feasible.
|

By:
im sure there were other icebergs.
they stopped in the film "a night to remember" but another problem is that reports say it was a clear night and a bright Moon, and two guys in the crows nest .How come they did not see it until they were 50 yards away.a guy would see a large iceberg miles away with the naked eye in the moon light. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Because they used to be issued with binoculars but then the company stopped issuing them and they had to pay for them themselves and the guys who were on watch hadn't and the stopping turning distance of a huge ship is large. If they had binoculars, it probably wouldn't have happened.

OH and the sea was if I remember correctly calm which made it harder to see as waves weren't breaking against it.

dick norris williams survived the titanic sinking and went on to be the only titanic survivor
to win an olympic gold medal, winning the mixed doubles in paris in 1924 with hazel wightman would went on to give her name to wightman cup he also won 4 doubles grand slams and 2 singles slams, non of them in paris. he was swiss born american and a decendant of ben franklin williams broke down a door on titanic after the crash to free a passenger which led to a scene in the film titanic its not known if he tried to moor titanic to iceberg |

I would say everyone was on the p1ss.all half drunk.
![]() I still think a lot of lies were told. And I believe that the public were not told the full story. And they were trying to break the course record for the trip. So it had to be full speed all the way.Perhaps they did see the iceberg and thought they could get passed .and made a Jamie Spencer judgement. ![]() |

The conspiracy theory has it that it was The Olympic and not The Titanic that hit the iceberg.
Capt Smith was a bit of a naval 'boy' racer and had crashed Olympic into a Navy cruiser, the damage was so bad they patched her up and swopped identities with Titanic to set up an elaborate insurance fraud. The Olympic/Titanic went on to have 20 plus years of service during which she collided with two other vessels 1 of whick sank. Her finest hours were sinking a Uboat and rescuing sailors from the stricken warship Audacious. Olympic/Titanic was only a few hundred miles from the stricken Titanic/Olympic and the captain offered to take the survivors off the Carpathia but the captain of Carpathia refused ,rightly thinking the arrival of a duplicate ship could induce hysteria amongst the survivors. |
|
By:
I'm sure that history will prove that if the Capt had been
a women then things would have been done differently and the said ice-berg would have been evenly distributed in Gin and Tonics on the ship. |
