It's a tricky one, Steve. Obviously he has qualities, otherwise you wouldn't have him as your mate. But a racist should keep it to himself, it's not acceptable in polite company, and it brings down your own reputation. How to educate him? That has to be your ongoing project, work on him without him knowing. Slip a copy of the New European inside his Racing Post! Say, "Hey, have you seen the Basquiat that went for $110 million," and "Hey, isn't it embarrassing for the UK that no other EU country wants to be in our xenophobic Brexit gang?" Hopefully, you can convert him, so that he joins the right side of history. And what better service could you do for a mate?

It would not be safe to carry the union flag in some parts of Britain, including London .
Now that is a very dangerous situation for any country,
If course in London there are people who were photographed in the company of one of the terrorist bombers in a London park carrying an Isis flag.
