I did not that long ago but despite the money being good gave it up.
Recently I've been asked to do a training role for one company and the accounts for a friend, both part time. Turned both down. The friend wasn't offering much wage wise but I found it hard to say no simply because he is a friend. However the Training role paid really well but the thought of having my day dictated to me once or twice a week was a no no. Could do with some extra cash but really enjoy my life with absolutely no responsibility work wise. |

As I see it, I've paid taxes all my life, I'm still paying taxes on my income and most of what I spend. The government squanders much of it on a growing army of the feckless and gravy train jobs in the civil service. Why should I work at my age just to pay them more? F*k 'em.

Also, I keep saying to myself how on earth did I find the time to go to work all those years? If I had a lot of spare time, maybe, but it would probably be something self employed, possibly. |

why on earth would anyone want to?
wouldnt have the time or inclination to go back, or join the rush hour the way our countries infrastructure has become so overloaded by lack of investment and unplanned population increases. |

Gave up my buisness six years ago then went back to work for a bookies for six months, after being self employed for over 30 years it was a culture shock plus the betting industry that I worked in nearly 40 years ago had changed out of all recognition, five years since I have worked other than eaking out a small wage on the betting front, if you asked me four years ago would you do part time work I may well have said yes, now no chance as a side issue health wise I doubt anyone would employ me now anyway.

similar to me i self employed 25 years had some good yeras had some bad years never put back anything for tomorrow spent it n the kids not looking foreward to retirement My fault |

Good advice WM. I planned for early retirement with the first tarfet being to not owe a penny when I retired.

Nothing wrong with doing part time work during retirement.
Work until your state pension is due, then take a part time job until you drop. And if that isn't enough, you can always have your ashes placed in an egg timer. Then you can carry on working when you're dead as well. |

Mate of mine retired a couple of years ago and now does two days a week at the Citizens Advice Bureau, no pay but he seems to like it.

A client of mine is a retired accountant...
Lovely house in a nice village etc, but was bored by not having any structure to his day. He had, recently taken a job as a postman and loves it, except in bad weather! His day is finished by midday, and it helps to keep him fit, and plus some welcome dosh for exotic holidays. |

just going through medical retirement 30 years as a postman has taken its toll on my joints iam 60 so will need to earn a part time wage of some sort but so glad to be leaving royal mail it is now like a workhouse from the 19th century

hopefully going from a massive 60 hour week to 2days a week in the spring 18. worked for over 44 years. get pension (work) next year . intend to work py for a few years . seen too many mates drop dead , get ill after astressful full on job and then retire to nothing. dont think the body can cope with the sudden change

I take it we've all got life insurance? Makes me laugh when they safe life insurance when it's all about your dying. Same as sick notes, they call them fit notes now. Wouldn't want to burden family with any debt when I pop my clogs

I get by on my personal pension but am far from well off. I did go back to work part time for a while and hated it. Ill health made me quit and I wouldn't go back working now.

people talk a lot of waffle about been bored etc its not about the money blah,blah,plenty of charities out there who use your services for free,but in most cases people are just greedy cooooonts who cant let go stealing the future from younger generations

Take a married couple, many of which are ill matched.
I'm sure most men would quickly get sick of being in the company of a wife who constantly talks twaddle all day, and relish a bit of relief from her that a part time job might bring. And the wife too would be glad to get him from under her feet. Especially if he's an overbearing know all. Of course the money can always be put forward as an excuse for one of a retired couple taking a part time job, but those of us who have a little bit more experience of life know the usual reason.  |

no plenty of people who,ve carried on working for all the reasons given above but its amazing how must of them reasons are dumped and they retire again when they start getting hit with higher taxes,nothing worse than working with these people
I don't need the money you do the overtime I don't need it only working what I want any mucky dirty awkward jobs need doing,i,m not doing them you do them blah,blah,always ends up in a shouting match ,well why don't you foook off back to your armchair then and let someone who wants the job have a chance |

I'm still working (pro gambler) not a handyman, not a gardener, need the income to feed the cats, and keep me in **** and booze.
Had the chance of redundancy at 47 and took it. However it would have been a grave mistake if Betfair hadn't come along a few years later. I would probably have been selling the Big Issue. Make sure you can afford it if you're thjinking about it, I really couldn't but got lucky. |

Bit of both actually. Some gambling (good info) some arbing, although not as easy these days due to restrictions. Oh, and a fair bit of trading. Not bothered how the money comes in tbh.
