I have a day job as Doctor Evil's shark trainer and spend my evenings here or consoling Hugh Hefner's hareem, jealousy of other's better opportunities is a terrible thing.

Conservative MP Douglas Ross is set to miss a crucial parliamentary vote on Wednesday night in order to be an assistant referee at a Champions League match at the Nou Camp.

Mr Ross, MP for the Scottish seat of Moray since he defeated the SNP's Westminster leader Angus Robertson at the general election, will be officiating at Barcelona's Group D clash with Greek side Olympiakos.

The match kicks off 45 minutes after MPs at Westminster are expected to vote on a Labour motion calling for universal credit to be postponed.

It is not the first time the MP has chosen football over politics. He also missed a parliamentary committee in November 2016 to work as an assistant referee at the Champions League match between Sporting Lisbon and Real Madrid in Portugal.

That decision led to calls for him to stand down from his frontbench role as the party's justice spokesman.

Sounds like hard work. Travelling the globe doing two jobs. I expect he'll be flagging later.

Whats not to like.....just like a good MP.... plenty of expenses to enjoy.....A day in the sun, top hotel , free flights , £1550 match fee and a good football match to enjoy with sprinkling of stars and a tickle of duty free shopping..... Nice day away Love

No wonder Johnny Cash bragged about it.
£1550 a pop! I'd walk the line for that.

BTW used to be the norm to have someone in opposition to double up with you and miss the vote.
That no longer happen?

DUP and tories abstained, vote doesn't count for anything as it's apparently a debate and not a proper motion or something. So much ado about nothing.

He's better off in Barcelona, pocketing the cash and enjoying it before Catelonia declares independence and it becomes like the bad areas of Brazil but without the good football or big a55ed dancing women.

If Corbyn DOES want a proper motion I'll mail them something tommorow morning, biology permitting.Wink

You've got to laugh at the SNP.
John McNally stood  up and waved a card to make a cheap point about Douglas Ross missing the vote.
Check the parliament records.
Prior to this vote since the 9th June he has been in attendance for 23 out of 23 votes.
Contrast that with Mhairi Black SNP MP who in the same period has only attended 4 of the 23.

Good luck to him, sounds like a hard worker holding down two jobs.

He has been doing this job for years. It is not like his constituents were unaware.

SNP just bitter he smashed their "Westminster Leader" out of site in the recent election.

Further irony in this tale is that Alex Salmond once missed a crucial debate on Syria because his state funded portrait was being unveiled to the Scottish media in Bute house.
