Delegates to the association's annual conference complained that it is becoming increasingly difficult for members to make a living due to modern security technology and the growth of Neighborhood Watch Schemes. Some members said that they sometimes go weeks without success and say that it is difficult for their families to manage, some even reduced to shopping at Aldi and Netto.

The General Secretary Nick Swagg said that if trends continue it will be difficult to recruit new members. He called on the Home Secretary to create a level playing field by withdrawing funds for neighborhood watch schemes and reducing the length of sentences handed out by the courts. He said that all that members wanted was a chance to earn an honest living.

He distanced the association from the extremist Aggravated Burglars Union who he said give his members a bad name.

A motion was passed calling for a change to the conference voting rules, allowing those members 'unable to attend' to be given postal voting rights.

The Metropolitan police are pleased to announce that have taken this onboard and are to stop investigating many lower level crimes, a senior police officer has said.

On Monday, it was reported that the UK’s largest force would no longer look into many reports of crimes, including burglaries, where there was judged to be little prospect of identifying a suspect.

The plan has been denounced as a “green light to thieve” but the Metropolitan police denied this and said it was simply a case of balancing the books.

I got invited to their annual conference but when I arrived there was nobody there. After a long trip home I found that my house had been burgled.
