Cheers mate, I'm on the Henry Westons already! Such an amazing result and that will no doubt kick start our season off in the dogfight to stay up.
I couldn't go today but I'm going to Newcastle away next Saturday brimmed with confidence that we can get something out of that match and even a win which will steady our ship nicely. I'm very happy for Roy, he must be under incredible pressure and watching his post match interview on BBC you could visibly see he had a spring in his step. I stopped short of having a punt on Palace but a few of my mates did and those that I know who went to the game said the stadium was literally rocking from side to side when the final whistle blew. Zaha being back was key and Speroni in goal is the fans choice rather than Hennesey. It's a long road ahead but hopefully we can turn the tide now. Imagine how many untold thousands of accas around the country bit the dust after that result? COYP ![]() |

I had to look up Budgie Byrne kennymann, he was a little bit before my time. I do however remember the goalkeeper John "Budgie" Burridge who Terry Venables signed in the late 70's. His party piece was he used to do handstands and cartwheels during the game! Mad as a box of frogs but a very able keeper in his pomp.

Before my time too kenny as I came to this great country in 1960. so missed him.

Evening chaps.
Budgie (because he talked so much) Byrne was probably th e best striker Palace had. Think he played a handful of games for England, but not sure. Died at 60, sadly. I think he was playing at Bradford Park Avenue when I attended, and we whipped Palace 5-0. Funnily enough they were the only 2 teams as far as I'm aware to have the same sized and shaped programmes. About 6 inches, completely square. I remember Burridge well, slippy. He played for loads of teams. Where did you come here from in 1960, foxy? |
|
By:
You wouldn't have missed him in 1960, btw. He'd have been about 20 then.

I've been to Newcastle loads of times Ronnie, I've got lots of mates there and in Gateshead, I'm their adopted cockney!
I've made a note of those places Ronnie, thanks for that. I love going to the North East, we are going to Newcastle dogs after the match. I've long since given up on Jokes, they don't want me as a customer anymore and I wasn't even that much in front. Just beat the odds a few times in a row, sackable offence mate as you well know. |

Lucky you, what a team you had from 60ish, didn't seem to last more than a year or too though.
scrumping was a term used for collecting firewood when I was a kid. Yorkshire term I think. |
