It now seems to have been legally established that a co-educational school that segregates boys and girls is guilty of discrimination. What about schools that only let in members of one sex to start with. About time Ofsted looked at Eton imo.

There are very few things that are sillier than segregating boys and girls at schools.

I went to an all boys school and it never did me any harm. I don't see the problem personally in having single sex schools.

I should imagine having an Islamic school in Britain is sillier.

They will find a way round the ruling, and will not be prepared to conform to it in Islamic schools.

Religion should not be taught in any British school, apart from perhaps Church of England schools.

The point is this regarding the ruling.
If a school is co educational it is of course illegal and wrong to segregate boys and girls
That is common sense and simply good manners that they should not be segregated, that in itself creates a wrong atmosphere , thing , can't think of the word, it not good in itself

However single sex schools are not the same thing and don't have that problem , obviously.
Which is better ? who knows .
But what is certain to be wrong is to have a co educational school and segregate the boys and girls.

I should imagine in general that it better for schools to be co educational.,
Especially for boys who tend to be shy. It's good for them.

How long before a dress wearing male child demands entry to a girl's school? Not long imo.

iirc there is some evidence girls do better in single-sex schools, at least in terms of exam results.

ramruma girls are doing better in schools in general, but it depends on the school.
They are not more clever than boys . but there tend to be more boys that struggle at school I am sure that is true.

Have to say, that I think I would have done better, at an all boys school!

I was just too distracted, by the girls, at the time!

I think, by today's standards, the school, with approx 1,100 pupils was small but, assuming a 50/50 split of boys and girls,
it would have needed another school, for the opposite sex, therefore not economically viable!

Ps, you will see, from my punctuation, how distracted I was!

Girls do better in all girl schools rather than co-ed. Interestingly, boys do better in co-ed schools rather than all boy schools. (Obv in terms of exam results achieved)

Our Henry was a pragmatist, WD. A tyrant motivated by money, sex and power, nothing unusual about that. Nobody claims he was conceived without intercourse, walked on water or rode a flying horse, he just wanted to usurp the power of the Pope in his own lands and do as he pleased including hanging on to the money paid to Rome. Most religions appear to be based on silliness to me, why should the C of E be any different?

Well it's Christianity isn't it. Mormons, Baptists, seventh day Adventists, Islamists and many other followers of religions founded after Christianity and based on much of it also believe in God.
In those days, by the way, not all the Popes led blameless lives. Henry was a pious man and probably no worse than some of them.

Yes good point treetop!

Sod all to do with religion as is the burqa!

As is not eating pork and blessing food. Now why do two religions from the same part of the world observe the same practises? Because they are man made not God made just like the burqa and segregating children at school and in life!

I remember being on a tour in Dubai & our guide was ask about why people wear  the burka, he replied it had absolutely nothing to do with religion, it was totally a lifestyle choice.
