I'm off to there on Wednesday for a few days with a group of friends and none of us have been there before.
It's a mixed group so there won't be any shenanigans by the blokes. The only suggestion forthcoming by one of the ladies is to go to the Abba museum where you can dress up in 70's gear and do your own Abbba vidéo which quite frankly is my idea of purgatory and I'll be in a pub nearby ẃhilst carry on is happenīng.
Any suggestions of where is good to visit, nice restaurants, bars etc. greatly received sensible or otherwise.

Vasa Ship Museum, interesting way to spend a couple of hours
Report SlippyBlue October 2, 2017 1:00 PM BST
Well Fred I've just had a look at The Heartbeat club. If it was a lads jolly up then no doubt that's the sort of establishment we would pop into but it would not down too well with the women going.
T.L. to be honest I wasn't planning on getting kidnapped!

The vasa ship is like their Mary Rose, but better, it's far more intact. Not sure about the time of year but there is a great large outdoor museum next to it - but not sure about in October if weather is cr-p.

Many thanks for that tip stickyvicky and J.C, I've just had a good look at The Vasa museums site and that is right up my street, cheers.

Stockholm is a beautiful city to walk around, and I'll also nominate the Vasa Museum.

If you get nice weather a boat trip around the 'Venice of the North' is a pleasant relaxation.

I would avoid Rinkeby like the plague.

Thanks alun, I do like a boat trip in fact I enjoy anything nautical but as the high daily temperature will not exceed 11C I think I'll give a boat trip a miss this time!

Btw, a boat trip would be essential for me.

Wrap up warm and sit inside. They might even be heated.

If it's anything like Gothenburg, just some of the must beautiful women in the world, imo.
(Mind you, that might no go down to world with the women going either).

I loved it there so much, I wanted to stay.

Well M_D, I don't really do cold weather at the best of times but certainly not on a boat! I'll have a look at your links, thank you

If anyone goes in the summer especially I recommend that outdoor museum, "Skansen". It's really old houses and farm buildings etc brought from all over the country then laid out in over a large area with period furniture and so on, you can go in some of them. There were people around in period costume, farm animals in the farms etc, was closest you'll get to a time machine.

Was also going to mention Skansen but couldnt remember the name Excited

Closest you'll get to a time machine? You've obviously never been to Burnley.

The Abba Museum, The Vasa and Skansen are located in the same area - takes ten mins to walk from the Vasa to Skansen.

I would recommend a restaurant I used to frequent but it is closed now.  The scenario is worth relating though; It may even have relocated or now operate under another name.  It was called Raakan (means Prawn) and specialised not surprisingly in seafood.  The restaurant was built around a big raised indoor pond, with the tables around the outside. Water level was at should height when you were seated. When your starter was ready (and the speciality of the house was large shell on prawns which came in a box), you were delivered of a remote control with which you delivered your food from the kitchen across the pond to your table via a miniature trawler, carefully avoiding hazards like islands, rocks and reefs. I kid you not!!

It was seriously ridiculous but great fun, particularly when one of the waitresses was required to hitch up her skirts to wade in and recover a stricken trawler from the rocks.  I am sure they recycled the prawnsWink

I got back home yesterday afternoon, my thoughts about Stockholm are 100% positive, myself and the group I was with all absolutely loved the place.
The Vasa museum was extremely interesting, visually the warship itself is quite stunning even though it never made it out of Stockholm harbour on her maiden voyage! I did get dragged along to the Abba museum but it really wasn't my thing and just had a couple of pints whilst the womenfolk were singing away. It has to be the cleanest city I've ever visited, absolutely immaculate and nowhere near as expensive as we all thought it might be. We all stayed in a 3 star hotel 30 minutes walk to the centre and it was absolutely fine, £80 for a double room and an all you can eat breakfast so you can't argue with that at all. The Swedish people that we met were all completely charming, we are all going again this side of Christmas and I would heartily recommend Stockholm as a place to visit to anyone.
