The Sopranos is the best TV series ever imo

The Wire i only saw about first 7 episodes , then missed one , never got back to it . Up to that point i'd not seen any characters or scenes that i'd not already seen in hundred other cop shows and movies .But maybe it picks up a lot after that .

* The Sopranos obviously ffs
Report Racingqueen September 24, 2017 6:25 PM BST
The wire is superb

The Wire is from the viewpoint of decent people. The Sopranos is the glorification of violence and of the underclass.
Report tobermory September 24, 2017 6:45 PM BST
How is it a glorification ?

Soprano's. Obviously. Then the Wire.

Series 1 to 3 (especially Series 2) of 'The Wire' is definitely worth a watch. Quality control dropped off later on, and I thought the final series was so poor I gave up.

'The Sopranos'  is probably a bit overrated. Can't say I went out of my way to keep up with it all the way through. I did stick it to the end.

I'm going to suggest an alternative. Try 'DAMAGES'. They made 5 series and having watched the first 4, I can highly recommend it.

The good thing is that you can also watch it cheaply. Each series can be bought very cheaply at Amazon. Either buy the entire 5 series in one quite cheap box set, or try them one by one at low cost.

Cheers alun. I can watch them all for free on Terrarium TV. Narcos is in the frame too.

I liked them both, but the Wire better and more original IMO.

The Wire is the best TV series of all time imvho.

The Wire has the most fascinating mix of Characters you'll ever see in one box set Cool

Storyline's good & keeps you guessing , though does drop off a bit in series 4 i think , all about the kids , but makes the Soprano's really quite boring in comparison

Haven't seen The Wire but The Sopranos is simply the best series I've seen, just love it and am on 3rd time round on Wednesday nights on Atlantic.
Report pixie September 27, 2017 11:12 AM BST
Seen them both and loved them both. The Sopranos wins, that's even excluding the silly season with McNulty messing about with evidence.
Report Knight Commander September 27, 2017 11:50 AM BST
Seen both twice now and would put The Wire ahead of Sopranos. Sopranos sometimes seemed a bit of a send-up whereas The Wire just felt more real. Needs subtitles though.

Sopranos. Simply outstanding. James Gandolfini magnificent. RIP Sad

The Wire for me - although it goes without saying that The Sopranos is excellent.

I also love Fargo.

The Wire

Probably the 2 best series in living memory.

I'd give The Sopranos the edge only because there were more episodes and more humour.

Tony Soprano runs in the 5.40 Kemp lads.

The Sopranos for me - really enjoyed Series 1-3 of the Wire but it was hard work in parts and I wouldnt watch it again - Sopranos much funnier, and bears repeat viewings.

The Wire much better, but don't watch the last season.

The Wire for people with a brain The Sopranos for cheap thrills.

The Wire for people with a brain The Sopranos for cheap thrills.

I would say if anything, the opposite. The Sopranos was much funnier and with The Sopranos' having less main characters the characterisation was much stronger and made the people more believable. Carmella, for example had a real depth of character, one the viewer really understood - The Wire never got that far, eventhough it was great.

It's not meant to be a comedy!

Love both shows have watched each start to finish a few times ove the years! Which is best....... for me the wire by a short nose... imo the sopranos could have been better had they not killed off some great characters so early, Richie aprile was fantastic!

Both equally good. Only criticism of the Wire is there's so much mumbling it's a bit hard to understand what they're saying.
