Gadget for removing the back?
Report stewarty b September 24, 2017 4:54 PM BST
I use those pliers that are very narrow at the end.
Report stewarty b September 24, 2017 4:55 PM BST
If it's not that style just use a sharp knife.

** I'm talking about a £100 watch here. Anything fancy then best go to a jewellers who charge a fortune.

I know a fella who sells watches that don't need a battery. Not sure how they work, he sounds like a wind up merchant.

Bet he's barely ticking over.

GF bought me a Tissot, bless her, battery ran out after a year or two. Website: 'go to one of a handful of specialists, cost about £60 and up' Went to an old-school watch repairer in Bristol's Gloucester Road, he did it in front of me there and then, charged me a fiver and no, this was recently not donkeys' ears ago

My local jeweller is a tenner.

Go for it.

I do indeed change my own, having been paying a fiver at jewelers.

I bought the tools years ago for next to nothing, and usually buy them for something like £1.50 for two.

Bought a pack of 50 for £1.99, and there are 10 of 5 sizes.

As usual, someone on here said I've been robbed, and could get them for less at a "Pound Shop"!

Laugh

My everyday watch was so cheap it will probably cost less to replace the watch when the battery dies Crazy

I always change my own. Have a back opening tool off ebay that allows you to properly open funny backs without resorying to mangling it with a screwdriver and it cost just a few quid, and I've a watchmakers screwdriver set for removing the tiny screws that often hold the battery in place.

Points to note are to be careful with those screws (so like do on a table maybe in a tray not standing over some wooden floor with gaps for them to fall in - like I did once) and pay attention to how it comes apart as some have a wierd contact onto a thing stuck on the back for a beeper, if it has it.

Job done. Amersham market £4.

I had a "Seiko" that didn't need batteries or winding.....It was kinetic!

When I told people it was kinetic, they would say they didn't think it was that bad!

My watch.

What's a battery?
Report Ken Masters September 26, 2017 5:12 PM BST
It's the thing inside that watch that keeps the hands turning. If you've been winding it all this time, I don't want to be the one to break it to you...
Report Mc Moonbeam September 26, 2017 7:40 PM BST

I had a watch that was advertised as being safer when driving but it was just useless, just a dot in the middle? So much for being Hands Free.
