Drivers who were stuck in stationary traffic for nearly 12 hours were forced to abandon their cars as a major UK motorway was closed over a bomb scare for the second time in a week. The M3 was shut down in both directions from junctions nine to 11 in Hampshire at 4am today after police were called to a 'serious incident' near a footbridge between junctions 10 and 11. |

Someone lobbed a flammable substance over a bridge over the M3 near Winchester. Probably a can of petrol. What should have taken an hour, possibly 2 hours at the most, to clean up in fact took about 6 hours before the motorway was reopened. Overkill or what! The stuff had probably evaporated by then in any case.
Luckily at the time of the incident I was heading away from Winchester towards London, so didn't affect me. |
