It's a good policy really. I've always found the tipping culture in certain industries pretty odd. Most people don't get 'tipped' for doing their job. In the states they expect you to tip them for taking the top off a bottle of beer

I had exactly the same experience in the Brixton Wetherspoons last week, I said to the lad to keep the 3 quid odd change for a pint for himself but he said he wasn't allowed to take it. I don't really see the argument personally that if you get good service you can't leave a tip.

DOES THAT INCLUde saying get one for yourself and thy used to say I,ll have it later or take the money out of the till and put it into a jar near the till

You can buy them a drink. They have to check it with a supervisor I think.

There is something very unsavoury about the tipping culture imo. In a number of circumstances, it seems to excuse the companies, allowing them to pay less than they should to their staff & the tippers are assumed to make up the short fall to help them out.

If you bought some beer in Tesco for example it is highly unlikely you would say keep the change

the only tip i give these days is to the fella that brings the occasional takeaway.surefire way to make sure your next order is piping hot.

Wetherspoons??...no one here is desperate enough to imbibe with the hoi-poloi..surely?

leazes67, you must be one of the few Geordies who tip. House of Tides, Blackfriars and Broadchare have all had to add 10%/12.5% service charges to the bill as hardly anyone was leaving a tip!

^^^Never been to any of those establishments, the young girl in question was looking a bit frazzled but was serving with a smile on her face so i thought she deserved a tip.Wetherspoons should allow their staff to accept tips if they are paying minimum wage.

Why would you tip three quid when that's all a meal costs

|
By:
It's definitely up to the pub manager's discretion.
Some will let me slip the pretty young girl something, others refuse point blank. |

By:
Welcome back Kenny.
|
|
By:
Tipping ensures the management can continue to pay low wages, citing, 'look at the tips you make'.

Went to Wetherspoons last night and used the order and pay app. Only took me 30 seconds so I gave myself a £2 tip.
