Love the way they try and claim it will fan islamophobia, where as a van killing killing innocent people is not done in the name of islam.

Remind me, is there any particular reason incident or experience that might make these french cartoonists have strong opinions on such things?

The comment by Sonia Mabrouk was poorly translated. It should read
"I love the Islam that was taught to me.  I denounce its exploitation by terrorists. I respect the freedom of ALL to caricature (it)."

Charlie Hebdo editor Laurent "Riss" Sourisseau explained the choice in an editorial, saying that experts and policymakers were avoiding hard questions out of concern for moderate, law-abiding Muslims.

"The debates and questions about the role of religion, and in particular the role of Islam, in these attacks have completely disappeared," he wrote.

...........

Well said that man.

If the likes of Milliband had their way it'd be illegal to even approach the subject! No matter what happens and what conclusions people may draw, they'd be forced to watch it happen and not say anything, by law. It is incredible. This isn't the free liberal Britain I thought I was born into, the home of modern Democracy.

There is a total disconnect in this country between the normal population and the Islington set at the BBC/C4/Labour...

I didn't think the cartoon was very good. Certainly not in the Python pantheon but good that they weren't afraid to do it! It is a shame our newspapers don't have the courage to print cartoons about Islam and Mohammed. All religions deserve to be lampooned. Unfortunately, for me the Hebdo cartoon was not lampooning Islam. It wasn't remotely funny. It was very sad and the people of that religion need to claim it back. They also need to expose the terrorists in their midst. Why would you protect or shield a murderer, a child killer, they even kill more moslems than the West did!

Talking of "Satire".

I caught the latest Daily Mash, had kind of forgotten about it. Improved? No. Just predictable (and incorrect) Trump bashng, Tory bashing, Brexit bashing, May bashing .. even had some childish song about Boris who hadn't done anything, just so they could take a swipe at Boris. It was pathetic. Satire?

Did I miss the episode where they had a go at Venezuela socialism loving Corbyn and him not condemning their communist style actions? Trump got infinite flak for not condemning something? Maybe replayed the bit where Corbyn phoned Venezuela's El Presidente on TV to suck up, that's fantastic satire material. ... (google it).

Thought not. Go Charlie Hebdo, you have guts and go where satire needs to go. A bunch of leftie british comedians preaching to their own leftie audience telling them exactly what they want to hear in their safe space is not "satire".

It seems the good people of Italy have had quite enough of things. Expect more of this across Europe as the patience of the authorities becomes exhausted.
