It has been done by paying people VERY low wages.
Apprentices on £3 something an hour takes care of a bit.

Minimum wage and PART-TIME work the rest.
Most of the population is still not at all well off.

Also 'placements' studyform. My daughter was working in the West End for lunch money and tube fair. Her boss turned up in a Bentley every day.

The benefits system distorts the figures. Lots of people working ? Yes but full time? No.  Just working a few hours a week can take you off the the unemployed figures.  Working tax credits can actually mean you are not much better off working full time.

many are not full time. many of them are casual agency work and many are self employed, again not earning much.

People not even earning enough to cover their ridiculous rents and council tax.

Lots of lovely (specially designed) employment figures and millions of people living below the breadline.

Just enough news to keep the best kind of voters happy.

Spot on Study , Rubbish Figures ,what about the Drug addicts Alcos etc Roaming our Town Centers not to mention Vast Areas populated by Immigrants where no one is working in the family, where do these people come into the calculations ??

I worked on a Few estates in London That I would be surprised if 1 in 2 People were Working as about 20 % could not speak English I cannot see how they would be working ? I am not being Racist just stating Facts ...

Perhaps a large Amount of People are Removed and classed as Non Workers ??

The Figures are a load of Shyte .

Suburbs I can Believe 1/20 Emit, But London itself 20 % are living in what would be classed as Poverty ,If not more ,A hidden London Sad

In the US the true unemployed figure stood at 8.6% according to the more accurate U6 calculation. Official figures have it at ( you guessed it ) 4.4%. Here in the UK where there is no published comparable figure to the U6 some reports have it as high as 12%

Would say 12% about right here

If I've heard this right then those on Government schemes (Work Programme etc) are also omitted from the figures. If true than that is a hefty figure in itself

theres also those say over 50 who,ve lost their job but hav savings etc so cant get job seekers, but who are in and out of work but wont show up as unemployed, think you,ll find 10o,s of 1000,s in this position,i and lots of people I no are in this position . people use to sign on for their stamp even if they got no money ,but don't bother now because you have to follow the same rules as though you were getting job seekers allowance, again I,m one
