Penge is a bit of a craphole, The George in Beckenham High Street is a decent pub, just up the road from Penge.

Penge is enjoying something of a revival at present, fuelled in part by the arrival of the Overground to Penge West station. The Goldsmiths Arms and the Alexandra have both been refurbished and are gaining reputations for good beer, decent food and friendly service. There is a very good Italian restaurant called Friends of Flavours and just down the road in Clockhouse is a pizza place called 500 degrees, which serves one of the best pizzas I have had outside of Italy.
Penge is also gaining a reputation for its street art; one of the earliest Banksys is near Penge East station. If you are on Facebook look up the Penge Tourist Board group. August 26 is Penge Day, with various events on around the place throughout the day. Enjoy your visit Grin
