All bin men are striking in their orange overalls. Can see them a mile off.

Someone really should tell these bin men strikers to put a lid on it.

Used to come around the back of the house, sling the bin onto their shoulder and carry it to the wagon. Empty into the truck, return the bin, replace the lid, a quick doff of the cap and a cheery remark and it was job done.
Now its a two yard walk across the pavement, touch a button then roughly aim it back towards your gaff. Progress indeed. ![]() |

I wouldn't want to be a binman, they are not appreciated by most, the bags get ripped open by the fox and magpies. Have you ever been behind a bin lorry on foot, they stink to high heaven. Also the distance they cover on every shift would make Mo Farrar give up, hardly a glamorous job is it.

Not many ladies involved, I suspect they much prefer school canteen duties for the same pay

That's the real problem, Sica Dan. Birmingham Council recently had to pay a billion pounds in settlement of historic equal pay demands and had to sell off the NEC to help pay for it. The bin men probably do deserve a pay rise because of the demanding nature of their job but that would mean increasing pay across the pay grade which they can't afford without screwing those of us who pay for it through our rates.

Clearly government legislation is called for here.
They all ready get paid way over the top with conditions of employment only dreamed of in the private sector. Councils need the law on their side when dealing with strikers. |
