A cup of tea.
It used to be the case that tea (or for the metros3xuals - coffee) came as standard. More and more these days you're asked to fork out another couple of quid on top.
It's not a facking full English without a brew, is it? What is the world coming to?

Used to have one every day, long ago. First one for about a year this AM. It was hash brown or black pudding. It had to be the hash brown, black pudding touching owt else on the plate would put me off. Really enjoyed it.

Gotta be
eggs
bacon
sausage
mushrooms
beans
tomatos
toast/fried bread +tea

imho.

mushrooms patchy? i like mine well cooked.
duck eggs are better than standard eggs, taste like eggs used to in the seventies.
Report saddo July 31, 2017 3:04 PM BST
Overlap, desmond. It cannot be a full English without tea included imo.
Report cooperman July 31, 2017 3:07 PM BST
Fried bread great when fat came out of the bacon instead of water. Dry cured for me, I'm a tight @rse that don't like paying for water injected shoite.
Report Desmond Orchard July 31, 2017 3:10 PM BST
If only we agreed on the black pudding, we would be in perfect accord Saddo.
There's an irish bar near Covent Garden called Philomena's that does a cracking Full Belfast breakfast. If I'm ever in't'smoke, I make it my business to pay at least one visit - tea (in a proper pot) is included.
Report blackbarn July 31, 2017 3:18 PM BST
Fried Bread is essential - You'll need lard as you wont get enough fat out of proper dry cured bacon - nothing wrong with adding it to the bacon pan mind while the bacon is resting.

Black Pudding also essential imo - Irish (Clonakilty or Sneem) or Stornoway are each very good.
Report zorrostrikes July 31, 2017 3:30 PM BST
i'd rather have a spin off breakfast.

french toast(eggy bread) and crispy bacon with sauce. cup o tea.

the idea of everything on a plate as soon as you wake up? ffs.
Report Whisperingdeath July 31, 2017 3:37 PM BST
it is usually beans or tomatoes

fried slice is now generally an extra

tea or coffe is usually included but some sharp practice has come in recently as Desmond has said but I don't think it is metro sexual to have coffeeAngry! I like coffee, real coffee, strong coffee and I don't like PG Tips or Tetley ( Gold Label excepted! ).

The Captain Kirk's seem to have taken over the Cafe's. I don't have a problem with that. They try to keep things traditional in London at least. We don't have too much Black Pudding on offer but it is available. The rest of the country may be different.
Report saddo July 31, 2017 3:41 PM BST
It's a taste thing for me. I drink more coffee than most men alive and tea very rarely, but has to be tea with an English. Always beans and tomatoes up here.
Report Whisperingdeath July 31, 2017 3:49 PM BST
We get Set 1,2,3,4 and quite often 5.

The main constituents are eggs, sausage, bacon, beans and/or tomato, toast and tea or coffee. Mushrooms, bubble and squeak, fried bread and black pudding are usually extra's

The food is usually clean as are the cafe's

Unsmoked bacon, on the crispy side.

Akee and salt fish, dumplings, plantain and god knows what else. Filled me up all day. Without doubt more stodge than a full monty and you could probably cut cane all day in the hot sun without needing to stop at 11 for a full monty! of course drinking red stripe helps.

I tried the Sausage Patties recently ... far superior to actual Sausages Cool though cost a bit more & only 6 in a pack .

so for me:

2 x SAUSAGE PATTIES
3 x smoked back bacon
egg (can't cook a breakfast without one)
Beans (are a Must)
Mushrooms (cover with bit of butter)
Fried Tomato (never forget the sizzling tomato)
Hash Browns (just bought some actually McCann are the best but far overpriced for small bag)
Fried bread (do it last to get all the juice out of the pan)
Brown sauce (prefer HP it's stronger)
MILK (to swig it all down with)

followed by a nice Cup of Tea !
Report Jack Hacksaw August 1, 2017 1:50 PM BST
Beans have no place on the plate.  There is a danger of egg contamination.  They are acceptable only in a small ramekin.

Two fried eggs.

Similarly tinned tomatoes should remain in the tin.  Fresh toms only please.

Soda farls is a good call.  Must remember that one.

Sausage and bacon only from a good local butcher - otherwise you will be eating carp.

Mushrooms should be sliced and cooked in fat from sausage and bacon.

Hash browns have no place in an ENGLISH breakfast.  The frozen ones are ****.  I don't mind proper ones (cubed or grated potatoes) but only ever had them in the U.S. (not bragging blackbarn!)

Plenty of freshly toasted (ideally low GI) bread with proper butter.

He may as well of said Halibut, or is it Jehovah. Whichever, Stone Him.

4 x smoked bacon, streaky.
1 x quality sausage, pre poached (8 mins for a fat one) then fried to char.
2 x fried eggs, RUNNY yolks.
2 x flat mushrooms
1 x portion of beans, as mentioned Branston (with additional tabasco sauce) - Toms fully acceptable for others but I'm allergic to the seeds and skins (love the taste though).
1 x fried white slice
2 x toast and proper butter
1, 2 or occasionally 3 sploshes of rosie.

Jobs a goodun.
1 x fried slice

Egg yolks should be liquid, if they happen to run into the baked bean sauce then its no big deal.

Important for me though is that toast should not be cut into fcking triangles. How am i meant to make a spur of the moment sausage sandwich out of triangular toast? Its not mathematically possible.

Excellent, Cooperman!

For fried bread aficionados:

You can buy pork dripping to fry your fried bread in, seeing as there's rarely enough fat that comes off grilled/fried bacon to make fried bread these days.

Well, in Stoke you can.

There's an excellent local pork butchers - Brown's (est. 1875) - who trade in Hanley Market.

They sell tubs of pork dripping (with the pork jelly underneath the fat), which is perfect for multiple fried bread scoffings.

Although it's not listed on their price list, if you give them a ring I'm sure they'd tell you how much it costs plus p+p.
