A man who suffered cyanide poisoning after eating cherry seeds has called for warnings to be put on packaging.
Matthew Crème, from Lancashire, said "curiosity" got the better of him when he decided to crack three of the seeds. However, he soon started to feel ill.

Mr Crème was eating cherries on 17 July when he cracked a seed and found another inside with "an almond texture".
"It was just curiosity and you know what they say about curiosity," he said.
"[The seed] tasted similar to an almond but with a cherry flavour to it - I didn't think nothing of it, just thought it was a seed, so I ate it and continued to eat more of it."

Within 20 minutes of eating three seeds, he felt extreme tiredness and had a headache.

Mr Crème only realised the potential for poisoning after an online search and he rang 111.

Not sure if his name or his stupidity is funnier!!!

wouldn't you have to eat a lot of them?

i think apple seeds are similar.

they say apricot kernels have anti cancer properties.
Report The Leopard July 29, 2017 2:18 AM BST
Apricot kernels have about 3.5 times the Amygdalin (which can produce cyanide in the body if ingested) that a cherry pit has.

Cyanide in fruit seeds: how dangerous is an apple?

The seeds, pips and stones of many varieties of fruit contain small amounts of cyanide, so here’s your handy guide on the pips not to eat

You’re highly unlikely to manage to eat enough apple seeds to poison yourself, so you can rest easy if you occasionally swallow one. Apples contain a compound called amygdalin in their seeds, which is a cyanide-and-sugar based molecule. If the seed is chewed or otherwise broken, human or animal enzymes come into contact with the amygdalin and effectively cut off the sugar part of the molecule. The remainder can then decompose to produce the poisonous gas hydrogen cyanide.

Cyanide toxicity is experienced by humans at doses of around 0.5–3.5 milligrams per kilogram of body weight. Symptoms of cyanide poisoning include stomach cramps, headache, nausea and vomiting, and can culminate in cardiac arrest, respiratory failure, coma and death. A fatal dose for humans can be as low as 1.5 milligrams per kilogram of body weight. In a recent study, the amygdalin content of apple seeds was found to be approximately 3 milligrams per gram of seeds (one seed is approximately 0.7g).

As not all of this mass would be converted into hydrogen cyanide (some of it will constitute the sugar part of the molecules that is cleaved off), it’s apparent that you’re going to need to eat a huge number of apple seeds to succeed in poisoning yourself, and there don’t appear to be any cases of someone having succeeded in doing so.

was just away looking up apricot kernels - FFS

I've been eating tons of them.

Morrisons sells chilli seed mix. 75p a bag
I separate out the apricot seeds by themselves as they are Fkin tasty.
You probably get about 15-20 in each bag.
I kept looking for whole bags of them?
See them advertised on google - you can buy bags of them?
Does roasting them take out the poison?

i even looked up Almonds,

Moses brother aaron had a staff and it budded, it grew
almonds. It was one of three things that they kept with
the ark of the covenant. kosher.

So I was eating a lot of sweet almonds, pumpkin seeds
sunflower seeds and other seeds. chilli seed mix.

My back was getting better but my stomach was feeling
more sore, so i dialed it all  back.
I haven't had seeds for a few months now.

I quit because i thought the seeds might be clustering
together in my gut. Called a bozar?  so I talked
myself out of eating seeds.

healthy eating ?
