the NHS is shot to bits, in work poverty and mass homelessness and the usual suspects moaning about the bbc

it's the banker/cookie joke.

but I am interested in how bad some of these people's agent must be, or how good some are.

How Claudia Winkelman can get more than Fiona Bruce is a baffling, and quite how Clare Balding is paid so little is a mystery.

clare balding? spent two weeks blagging her way through Wimbledon, remember Pat Cash comparing one player to Marcelo Rios and then saying "remember Marcelo Rios", you could see she had no idea.

biggest mystery will always be Chris Evans, I just don't get him, but he gets top gigs so people must like him, though he was terrible on Top Gear for me.

They probably get paid the going rate. None of it is really a shock or a scandal.
Some of them I rate, some of them I don't (regardless of whether I like them or not)

However the Daily Mail article has 10,000 comments (!). I haven't read any of them, but I bet there's a lot of vitriol.

It's all disgusting, but Chris Evans pay is obscene !!!

Gary linnekar is a typical champagne socialist - bleating about all the oppressed people in this country whilst quietly counting his millions ... then blaming others for his predicament if earning too much!! What a joke of a man.

No to the EU, England, United Kingdom, 9 hours ago
And we pay them this much to preach EU and Left Wing propaganda at us..... Time to stop paying them !!

alliesurrey, surrey, 9 hours ago
On the sort of salary Gary Linekar is earning he could afford to pack his big house with many of the "refugees" he is constantly sympathizing with - Linekar needs to put his money where his BIG mouth is...

Bobbybstar, London, United Kingdom, 9 hours ago
Gary should donate all his funds to the immigrants!

Andrew Marr = blatantly left wing. Andre Neil = stays too close to middle and unbiased for the comfort of the BBC elite. Salaries clearly reflect BBC extent to which one is happy brown nosing

Chris Evans failed in top gear, and he's paid the most? I get threatened with jail of I don't pay the license, and linekar sits all smug while preaching to us plebs. Let other channels take them, at least they raise their own money. Scrap the fee..

ohforaprayer, Nottingham, United Kingdom, 9 hours ago
This is what the license fee pays for. Massive waste of money and no accountability. No wonder they are all so pro EU!

Aren't most of these people the ones telling us that we should vote Corbyn in for a fairer society where wealth is distributed more evenly?

Good post by the OP - why are people surprised at the numbers being quoted? - did they think they were on minimum wage?

Gender equlity aside, this is how capitalist economises work.

Those with a higher perceived value to the organisation get paid more. On commercial channels this can be more easily quantified.

@doantwin2easy -- Those with a higher perceived value to the organisation get paid more. On commercial channels this can be more easily quantified.

Precisely, and even more so with radio programmes that have a single presenter or DJ. Chris Evans gets the largest audience in the country and has more listeners than Terry Wogan did in the same slot. That's why he gets the big bucks.

It is not that surprising there are so many radio presenters on the list. Audience figures are regularly published, it is hard to argue it is the programme format rather than the person, and there are lots of commercial stations ready to bid for presenters. And to be cynical, for most radio programmes there is not much else to spend the money on -- it's not like Eastenders where you've got dozens of actors and crew.

A,we shouldn't be comparing genders.but jobs,if a women was doing motd and comparing her wages with lineker fair enough, but why someone for example presenting bargin hunt should compare their wages with someone presenting top gear I have no idea
B, all these women were happy to sign a contract for the t and c,s offered, maybe the men valued themselves more and fought for more money, theres no locks on the contract talks doors

Saw someone say before - and I've no intention of checking - but if you add up all these salaries from the BBC it comes up short of what ITV are paying Ant and Dec.

I think that is right, they apparently signed a 3 yr “golden handcuffs” deal with ITV worth £30m, ITV said they want to lock their biggest talent. They are talented presenters but are they worth that much ?! It's an obscene amount !

It depends what you mean by "worth". In philosophical or even theological terms, no, they cannot be worth hundreds of their fellow citizens (£30M = over 1,000 times the average wage, although there are two of them, and three years, so about 200 times each).

But in hard cash terms, ITV will know £30 million is cheap compared to the amount they can charge for advertising, so in that sense, in purely commercial terms, yes, Ant and Dec are worth £30 million.

^ agree with your point Ramruma in purely commercial terms. And before they signed that £30M contract locking them in with ITV for 3 years, they were considering their other options. Hinting that they might be interested in joining Amazon Prime or Netflix on another huge deal, so in commercial terms, yes, you could say they are worth every penny.

It's like the same with football, the football industry is a multi-million-pound industry worldwide, and paying sky high wages to the players, worth it in commercial terms with all the revenue streams.
