I keep hearing people saying that cigs are now £10 a pack. Is that right? I thought they were probably £8 but didn't realise they were that expensive.

One caller (50 years old) said he'd been smoking since the age of 12 and that he smoked 10-20 per day and only enjoyed the first and last of the day.

Presenter: Why do you do it then?
Caller: I'm addicted.

And then, without a hint of irony in his voice, he said: "...but it's dead easy to give up; I've done it loads of times."

I first gave up smoking decades ago after experiencing great difficulty after failing time after time
What did the trick for me was Nicobrevin capsules.
Nevertheless after many years of not smoking at all, I drifted back after having the occasional smoke while out drinking.
I took the capsules again and gave it up for good.

I've come to despise smoking and the harm it does to our bodies.

work with a few smokers, none of them pay the shop price, they reckon to pay £2/3 a pack.the contraband market in cigs must be huge.

Surely the smoker should have had  just the two cigs a day then Crazy

Pump - I'm a non-smoker but I think what he's saying is that he's addicted and therefore needs to smoke to alleviate the withdrawal symptoms.

A bit like hard drugs where you initially enjoy the buzz but after addiction sets in you just need a fix just to feel 'normal'.

Btw, I've never taken any illegal drugs either!

Good point Barrowboy, where I live I don't know a single person who buys their tobacco from a shop - the guy who knocks out the tobacco is better off than the local drug dealers.

If I was a smoker, I doubt I'd buy them from "the bloke in the pub" but you're right, a lot of people do.

I'd probably go to France and buy them myself.

A caller to LBC about a year ago said she goes across about three times a year, buys several thousand and doesn't even get off the ferry!

She said she's been stopped at Customs a couple of times but they're not bothered if you're over the 'guideline' (is it 800?) as long as they're all the same brand.

For those of you who smoke after sex, I suggest using a lubricant!
