I can't listen to him either but it is well known he has turned down several megabucks offers from commercial stations
here and in the USA over the years. Way way more than the Beeb pay him.
A lot of it reflects how long they have been at the corperation.

Absolutely, one of the best interviewers around and he's getting around half of what they pay stroke victim Andrew Marr who is poor to say the least.
And much less than many other presenters.

Which proves what I learned years ago that to get on you have to go with the flow.
Don't be right but be agreeable with your boss.

The obvious thing that stands out a mile is that these ''entertainers'' because that's all that most of them are, receive far more than they're worth simply because the BBC is awash with money due to the license fee.

And all those figures above are basic salaries - the bonuses and expenses are also eye- watering. You should see what the BBC spend on sending hundreds of people to a sport event or (supposedly) newsworthy story. It's five star all the way and let the licence payer pick up the tab.

How much would have some of the old stars of yesteryear have been paid these days I wonder?

Charlie Cairoli and the 'Right Charlie' crew probably all on a minimum £10 million. Dougal out of 'Magic Roundabout' £15 million.

Someone like Lady Isobel Barnett from 'What's My LIne' would probably be a £100 million asset these days, like the footballer Bale. A real shame Lady Isobel was on the lifting game and topped herself after that courtroom humiliation.  I will say though in her defence that those 20p cans of tuna in the shops would surely tempt even the most honest member of the peerage to theft.

Hardest game in the world the shoplifting, hardest game in the world.

Does Lineker pick up even more for his BT Sports presentations?

Peter Glaze would probably be on around £200 million a year in today's money. He'd probably be unemployable though for more than 44 weeks of the year.

In Thorougbred Breeding terms, Pete would probably be the FRANKEL or GALILEO of Light Entertainment. Paid £150,000 for a couple or minutes work, maybe a couple of dozen times a year, affordable by only the very rich.

every hour of bbc tv costs £50,000 pounds, I worked it out a few years ago.

So Bargain hunt, being repeated is raking in a fortune as it's complete filler. Utter pap.
Any dead time during the night? Money is building up.

Look at the schedule and ask is that show worth £50,000 per hour.

I watched a programme on tv acquisitions? they went along to a exhibition hall
were different tv programme manufacturers sell their shows.
So one vendor was selling Columbo episodes - each columbo costs £25,000 to screen
on your tv station. If you buy multiple episodes the price dropped. So it might be only £12,000 if you screened a whole season?
So if you filled the BBC with imported products it could be a quarter of the price.
£12,000 versus £50,000.

I think the Irish salaries, although lower that the BBC top salaries, were not far behind.
And the Irish salaries were very poor value for what we got / are getting.
We have some right planks.

As an Irishman I can say this is about the only area where England are superior.
BBC salaries have some relationship with performance.

I posted this on Politics earlier:

What's clear is that the BBC is not a meritocracy.
And the people who keep ratcheting up the pay of the presenters, do so simply so that they can use that pay as a yardstick with which to argue their own salaries.
So it's no mystery why they're getting overpaid any more than why the executives in top companies are overpaid.
Where colleagues set their levels of pay, and then they return the favour.
And up goes the pay all around.
