I've been driving a company car for the last 5 years but am now considering buying my own car. Used a insurance comparison site this morning and whoa couldn't believe how much insurance is these days. I'm not helped by losing all my n/c bonus and starting from scratch but £600 for a 2013 ford focus!
Try moneysavingexpert for some tips which may help you lower your quote, but £600 doesn't sound too bad for what you stated. Some companies throw in a years free breakdown cover etc, and don't forget the ones that don't go on comparison sites like Direct line. GL.

After working on the counter of a chemist, Car Insurance is the preferred home of the lazy and stupid, for the same reason: a guaranteed customer base. If they could be bothered, they would review your record under the aegis of your company insurance for the last five years but they won't, and if you volunteer it they will be thrown into confusion.
Add a stolid driver to your insurance, try that. It defies logic, but often reduces the premium.

You don't mention your age or the specific model of "Focus"!
Also, what excesses are they quoting, and could you have it reduced by a voluntary excess?
Where you live, and where the car will be kept is another factor that you are stuck with!

"If you’ve recently given up your company vehicle, you should be able to use any NCB built up on that car.
But the NCB is only likely to be transferable if you were named on your company’s insurance policy for a particular car and for your use only.
Usually, when changing insurers, you need proof of any NCB you’ve built up from your last provider, but with company policies, many insurers will settle for confirmation from your employer".....

I'm a getaway driver from Brixton. As a professional driver, you;d think they'd take it into consideration when renewing, but it seems to go up every year.

About €450 comprehensive (Ireland). No claims for 22 years. I changed provider last month after 12 years with a crowd who had shoved it up bit by bit to about €950. I'm an OAP and too stupid to notice.
