Dont worry the government are dealing with this problem.
Acid appears to be finding favour with gangs and individuals to settle disputes and launch attacks, as simple bleach products and drain unblocker is available cheaply in shops without checks and carrying it does not incur penalties, like knives do.
Home Office minister Sarah Newton told the BBC Friday that while the government was considering tighter restrictions on such materials, the fact they could be found in any kitchen cupboard made legislation difficult.

Has to be one of the most pathetic and cowardly methods of 'attack' going. Whoever gets convicted of such an act should be utterly ashamed and humiliated, theres zero street cred about such actions imo.

I have purchased on several occasions drain cleaner without any restriction or comment. It is freely available. IT IS SULPHURIC ACID. Safe in a plastic container, but how long before they think of transferring it to a water pistol or used washing up bottle to be used as an acid firing gun.

If you attack someone with a knife the charge could be attempted murder.
If you attack someone with acid the charge could be grievous bodily harm. So the attraction in using acid to attack someone is obvious, and carrying it is not illegal.
The offence needs upgrading to something more serious.

A recent episode of the BBC's 'The Met - Policing London' provided an eye-opening illustration of this rampant criminality. The most ludicrous aspect, highlighted in an earlier post, is that the police are obliged to call off the chase if the criminals thrown away their crash helmets.

In fairness it's not that practical to start making people have to apply for a licence to buy bleach and Mr Muscle.

Just bring in a law that all corrosive liquids have to be bottled in tough (non squeezable) bottles with tapered nozzles, and make it an offence to reconstitute into other containers away from home or business.

Since some naughty boys are already disobeying the law that says you can't throw acid in people's faces, I'm not sure a new law against decanting liquid into new containers will help. It will just make it harder for law-abiding citizens to clean their toilets.

I do t believe it will impact law abiding citizens Ramruma. Cleaning products will be in pre defined bottles only and it will eliminate the defence of anyone implying intent by carrying such fluids around in anything else.
There would still be areas where somebody might try and squirt toilet duck into somebody's eyes but blimey it's getting pretty desperate if that's all they got.
There is grey area now, people can carry screwdrivers lawfully if they have reason to, yet you could kill with one.

Sounds like a lot of hassle and change that will do little to alter the current law. If these guys had been stopped driving around on mopeds at night with bleach on them then it would be an offence of carrying an offensive weapon without reasonable excuse anyway in the same way it would if they were carrying baseball bats or socks with pool balls in them.

Until you eliminate the defence by creating a defined law then how does carrying corrosive liquid become an offence? You could be on the way to clean a bog or kitchen, but if you have transferred it artificially into a container to throw at somebody then there is intent.

Just saying you are on the way to the bog whilst riding a moped at 10pm with a corrosive substance at night doesn't mean it's believable. If these people were stopped by the police before the attacks they would have have been charged with being in possession of an offensive weapon so I'm not sure what changing the law to what you suggest helps in anyway.

Well that would depend on the circumstances but surely you aren't suggesting criminalising people taking cleaning products to another house to clean?

i put bleach into a spray bottle to kill mold on windows and ceilings. Under this new law? that some are proposing I'm now a criminal?
If people are attacking other people it's got nothing to to with the materials they are using.. unlike a gun which is designed to kill people, Bleach and acids have a purpose that is legitimate in everyday life.
It's the people and their mental states that needs to be addressed. Respecting people and doing no violence needs to be the emphasis here.
There are people out there that believe they are better than other people - Narcissism is the phrase used. They treat people as objects and they manipulate people. When they cannot have their way they turn to violence and destruction. CONTROL of their environment extends out to random violence.

SD Not criminalising the taking of cleaning fluids between properties no, as long as they are retained in their original container, and by design that would erradicate the plausibility of deployment in the ways we have seen.
You would be allowed to do what you want on your own premisis, just like owning knives is permissible as they suit a function....but leave the property with them (not in their original container) and just like the knife you would get a mandatory jail term.
You got no chance changing people's mind set zorro. Look at the year (even by your 6000 year calendar) there has been plenty of time to change it if it were possible.

If someone was stopped by the police carrying cleaning fluids not in there container but in a cup or spray bottle then the likelihood is they would already be charged with carrying an offensive weapon regardless if someone says he was bringing it to mine to clean.
Your law change also wouldn't prevent someone carrying a bottle of cleaning fluid in their own container with an empty spray bottle in circumstances which suggest they were going to be used as a weapon so the police would end up resorting back to the current law anyway.
There seems to be a lot of furore about changing the law when the law for acid is the same as screwdrivers, scissors, garden tools, baseball bats etc. etc. in terms of the possibility of being an offensive weapon, it's just that acid seems to be in fashion amongst idiots looking to assault people at the moment.
Carrying a knife is also legal if you have a reasonable excuse so it's always possible to create cover by getting a friend to suggest you were bringing one round for some DIY. Whether or not it gets believed is another story.

Its about creating a standard, just like any other safety standard where certain chemicals are only permitted to be carried in certain containers. Having a clearly defined law that chemicals taken out of these containers would be punishable is clear.
If somebody transfered caustic chemicals out on the street that would be punishable just as it would be if I broke off a branch from a tree and fashioned it into a point to stab somebody in the neck.
If you carry a knife you get 2 years, done.

Yes under the current laws relating to offensive weapons. The same laws that can make carrying acid around in another container an offensive weapon.
Its just reactionary law making that doesn't really change anything but make it more difficult for people trying to use these substances legally. The practical affect will be minimal but because the new legislation specifically refers to acid it will appease people as it looks as if something has been done.
Next it will probably be the licensing of garden tools or large sports equipment if that becomes becomes the weapon of choice.

I don't know about 200 years but doesn't the pre-war gangster Pinkie (Richard Attenborough) in Brighton Rock carry a bottle of acid, as well as a razor?
Not that this excuses or is even related to criminality now.

Anyone convicted will remain in prison indefinitely. Each night they will sleep in a restrained position on a specially constructed bed with a container of bleach suspended over their face. They will be given a pull switch which will dispense the liquid over their face. If they do so, they will be able to leave prison.
Alternatively, each Saturday, they will be invited to draw a number from a bag containing balls number between 1 and 59 and will be strapped in a similar device and will watch the Lottery Draw. If their allocated number comes up they get a pint of corrosive liquid in their face.

There seems to be more than one thing going on here. In no particular order:
1) so-called honour crimes 2) theft (nicking mopeds for use in nicking phones, as @saddo says a couple of comments ago) 3) gangs (turf wars) 4) muggers 5) completely inexplicable attacks eg Tomlin who seems to have attacked that model and her friend simply because they were stopped at traffic lights when he happened on by
You could, perhaps, lump 2, 3 and 4 together as having some sort of economic, criminal rationale. To the extent these people are at least thinking about how best to make money (illegally) they may respond to stiffer sentences or other changes in the law. The others are harder. 1 requires a change of attitudes about what is acceptable, and how do we get there from here? 5 -- well, what do you do about people who have a screw loose?

The razor gangs used to tape part of the blade so they'd not "accidentally" kill their victims -- there was hanging in those days, of course.
Apparently we are now seeing a similar trend of so-called "safe stabbings".
It is of a piece with the rise in acid attacks in crime because in both cases there is an apparently rational aim to avoid a murder charge. It is proposed to show the gang members how dangerous all stabbings can be. The danger is the gangs just end up with a better idea of how to "safely" avoid major blood vessels.

Delivery drivers led by Jabed Hussain, the victim of an acid attack last week, have held a noisy protest outside parliament demanding protection from violence.
Hundreds of motorcycle and moped riders, who say they fear for their safety while working, brought traffic around Parliament Square to a standstill with their vehicles on Tuesday.
They say the attack on Hussain, who had his scooter stolen in one of five alleged acid-throwing incidents in east London on Thursday night, reflects an environment in which they and their vehicles are constantly targeted.
“We are scared. [The] government’s not taking enough action, [the] government’s not providing enough police,” said Hussain, who organised the demonstration. “I am a victim of an acid attack, I don’t want anyone else to experience the feeling of it. I felt fire on my face ... Who is going to give us our dignity? I want to ask the prime minister, who is sleeping [on the job] right now.”
Hussain said many delivery drivers were refusing to work after 8pm because they did not feel safe and many were considering leaving the job even if they had to “live on the streets”. He promised more demonstrations if drivers were not listened to. “This has happened so many times, that’s why all the drivers are angry,” he said.
Delivery drivers, some wearing the distinctive liveries of their employers, tooted their horns, revved their engines, and chanted: “No more acid attacks.” They blocked off the north side of Parliament Square with their vehicles and marched around the square holding a large banner, which read: “Stop acid attacks, bike theft, motorcycle crime.”
Wellington Silveira, 33, from Brazil, said he had been in London working as a delivery driver for about 10 years, but things had deteriorated to the extent that he was thinking of moving out of the city.
“I work in Islington, north London,” said Silveira, who works for UberEats and Deliveroo. “All day I have these problems; people trying to steal my bike. It’s not safe. I stop work at 10pm because it’s too dangerous.”
Bilal Zari, 32, said: “It’s about us being able to provide a service to people and put food on the table for our family. We are hard-working people.”
Zari said he had been threatened with reduced hours if he attended the demonstration, but had gone along anyway. “I am a father, I have two kids, [aged] two and three: that’s more important,” he said.
While Hussain said he was not blaming police, Silveira and Zari demanded tougher action by officers.
Hussain, an UberEats delivery driver, was on his moped at the corner of Queensbridge Road and Hackney Road when two men on a moped pulled up alongside and threw acid on him.
It was the first of five acid attacks to take place in a three-mile radius. He believes his helmet saved him from more serious injuries, but one of the alleged victims could lose sight in one eye.
Will Shu, the chief executive of Deliveroo, sent an email to his drivers on Tuesday pledging to protect them. He said a contact line has been set up for them to report concerns and no driver would have to work in an area where they felt unsafe.
A 16-year-old boy, who cannot be named because of his age, appeared in a youth court in east London on Monday accused of carrying out attacks on six victims on 13 July. He denies charges including wounding, robbery and possession of a weapon.

Shouting down people at the Grenfell community meeting before any action can be taken? All authority is disputed.
So people are doing what they want, including violent crime. they eroded the safety net, benefits, the NHS, the police, every service out there. Nature abhors a vacuum so people are moving into the space. Lawlessness increases with police numbers being cut.

Community relations and even race are red herrings -- it is gangs. In different parts of London it might be Black or Asian gangs in Black or Asian areas but in the north-west it seems to be mainly White kids shooting and stabbing each other.
What can be done about it, I've no idea.
